There are a couple of new Jeep models on the horizon, and they are creating all sorts of buzz in the automotive world. One is set for release in 2017, and the other for 2018. The one set for next year is the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk model, which is a Hellcat-powered version of the Grand Cherokee. The one set for 2018? The Wrangler pickup truck. Finally. At last, a long-time dream is being realized — a Jeep pickup truck. A go anywhere-do anything, rugged truck. A major reason for its appearance now is most likely because of the revival of the Ram Power Wagon, the Chevy Colorado boasting its own off-road edition, and a juiced-up Ford Raptor. Jeep wants to cash in on the latest off-roading truck craze, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
Both models are exciting, as each one brings something fresh to the Jeep lineup. One of them a street-specific model, and the other a more utility-oriented truck. No doubt, this truck will also be the most capable off-road truck to ever hit the market. It’s made by Jeep, after all.
2017 Unleashes the Grand Cherokee SRT Trackhawk
Here’s what we know so far:
The 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 Hellcat engine is the weapon of choice for the Trackhawk model. This engine is able to pump out 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque. Thanks to this engine’s power and other performance upgrades, the Trackhawk is said to hit 0-to-60 mph in the 3.0-second range — the fastest Jeep ever produced.
Since it’s a street-performing model with that much power under the hood, the GC SRT Trackhawk will need to be strategically improved in certain areas to handle it, like stiffer bracing and firmer suspension to help smooth out ride quality. The most noticeable change from the current model it’s based on is the mounted hood scoops, heat extractor vents, and a new intake slit in the front bumper.
Other than that, it will look just like a Jeep Grand Cherokee, which isn’t a bad thing, since it’s already a nice looking SUV.
2018 Introduces the Wrangler Pickup Truck
As of right now, what we know about the Wrangler pickup truck is very little. But, what we do know is that it’s called the Scrambler, and that it won’t be made out of all aluminum like the new Jeep Wrangler model. Instead, the chassis will be a traditional make, that’s simply fitted with aluminum panels. The CEO of Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles confirmed this himself.
Other than that, nothing is officially confirmed about the upcoming Scrambler. Expect a 3.6-liter V6 — most-likely the Pentastar engine found in the current Wrangler — and a heavy-duty off-road suspension system that makes all Wranglers legendary. According to a few other sources, the Scrambler will also have traditional solid axels.
Typically, speculations end up being wrong. But, since it’s a Wrangler pickup truck, I’m fairly certain that what was mentioned above will be found on the Scrambler. The SRT Trackhawk is exciting as well, don’t get me wrong. It’s just that the masses have been waiting for a Wrangler pickup truck since day one, and it looks like we’re finally going to get it.
