As the saying goes, “March comes in like a lion, but goes out like a lamb.” With that in mind, spring is right around the corner, and with it comes a renewed sense of freedom and an almost immediate desire to enjoy the outdoors.
Years ago, friends of mine had relocated from Massachusetts to Colorado. After they’d been out there about six months, I flew out for a visit and found myself accompanying them to car dealerships in Colorado Springs. What I had been surprised by, is that one of my friends who had previously been a bit of an inactive homebody had been reincarnated as an outdoorsman. Hiking, rock-climbing, snowboarding, and kayaking were all parts of his new life in the Springs, and that change was reflected in some of the vehicles that he was considering. After all, gear needs to go somewhere, many destinations require offloading, and in a state where you can experience all four seasons in an afternoon, versatility is key.
This time of year, I tend to think back to that visit and everything Colorado has to offer. Sometimes I find myself YouTubing scenic drone footage, like this:

For us outsiders, it becomes easy to see why Coloradans embrace a healthy and outdoor life with such vigor. It’s easy to understand why crossovers and SUVs like Subaru Outbacks, and trucks like the Chevy Silverado rate among the most popular vehicles in the area.
For anyone living in, or around Colorado Springs, I applaud you in the hopes that you embody every positive stereotype that I associate with your community and geography. And hopefully, your choice of vehicle allows you to make the most of your surroundings. If it doesn’t, maybe it’s time for a change?
