It’s an exciting year to be a Honda fan, an EV shopper, or an SUV driver. It’s especially a thrilling year if you’re all three of those. Have you heard about the Honda Prologue for sale? It’s Honda’s new midsize electric SUV, and it’s something of a dream come true for that ever-growing segment of the market. Honda doesn’t pull any punches with the 2024 Prologue: it’s got performance, amazing power and efficiency, and tech that any EV driver would love. Today, I want to take you through a guided tour of the 2024 Prologue, what you can expect, what you’ll get, and what’s available as you look through its three trims: the EX, Touring, and top-of-the-line Elite. Are you ready to begin? I sure am, so let’s get going!
Single-Motor and Dual-Motor Configurations
The 2024 Honda Prologue is a battery electric vehicle (BEV), meaning it doesn’t use any gasoline and has to be plugged in to recharge. The Prologue is not unlike your smartphone. For example, after a long day of being out working, shopping, or picking the kids up from school, you put your phone on the charger when you’re at home. With the 2024 Prologue, it’s much the same way, and you can recharge it in your garage or driveway when you get home. However, there’s more to charging than just that, and I’ll be delving deeper into charging momentarily, so for now, let’s talk about what’s powering the 2024 Prologue.
No matter which of the three Prologue trims you buy, your SUV will draw its power from an 85 kWh battery. The Prologue comes standard with a single electric motor on the front axle, but a dual-motor setup is available and will be the preferred route for optimal performance. The single-motor version provides 212 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque, which is roughly on-par with the sporty CR-V Hybrid. Meanwhile the dual-motor powertrain produces 288 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque. That’s more power than any of Honda’s current gasoline-powered models, including the Pilot and Passport with their V6 engines, providing drivers with responsive acceleration.
Charging and Powertrain Efficiency
While everybody else is driving to the gas station early in the morning to beat the traffic before work, owning a Prologue means you can leave the house when you’re ready, and your vehicle will be equally ready to go with a fully charged battery. A fully-charged battery in a BEV like the 2024 Prologue is akin to a full tank of gas on any other vehicle. Of course, your car will need to draw its juice from somewhere.
The beauty of EVs like the Prologue is that you have everything you need at home to add a full charge to your battery. Not many people have a gas station in their driveway, but everyone has electricity. The Prologue can be plugged into a standard 120V household outlet for Level 1 charging or recharged more quickly with a dedicated 240V Level 2 charging station. With that said, there are also places you can charge your Prologue outside of the house, and you’ll be amazed at how many public charging stations are available.
Many public charging stations available to Honda Prologue drivers offer Level 3 DC Fast Charging. You may be wondering how quickly you can recharge, but don’t worry––DC Fast Charging is speedy, and 10 minutes of charging can add 65 miles of range. Public charging stations can be found almost anywhere you travel these days. You can find charging stations at many mall parking garages, parking lots for movie theaters, and shopping centers, and it’s not uncommon for places like sporting arenas and other venues to offer charging solutions to their patrons.
One of Honda’s Best Tech Showings
When the Prologue was announced with a 2024 release date, many Honda fans began to wonder what type of tech to expect from this all-new midsize BEV. After all, electric vehicles are generally designed with forward-looking tech features that complement the forward-looking powertrain. Because the 2024 Prologue is the very first model year of an all-new nameplate, Honda had the chance to fully reimagine the technology inside. Given that opportunity, the engineers knocked it out of the park with some incredible features.
Inside the 2024 Prologue, every trim is treated to a standard 11.3-inch infotainment center that stands tall and proud above the physical climate control buttons and knobs, along with a dedicated volume knob fitted on the left-hand border of the sizable, intuitive, crisp display. Physical buttons and knobs have remained a popular choice among many drivers. Still, many manufacturers have been forgoing them in favor of purely digital input methods, which can lead to buggy or simply non-reactive controls, so I’m glad to see them integrated into every 2024 Prologue model.
The 11.3-inch infotainment center is also filled with amenities. For example, every 2024 Prologue comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These are great to have if you want to use something more robust than the pre-installed default operating system of the infotainment center. Instead, you can transform it into an extension of your phone, mirroring apps such as turn-by-turn navigation, music playback, messaging, and more.
You also get a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot built directly into the infotainment center, and USB-C ports are conveniently located under the media hub and climate controls. I recommend that audio enthusiasts spring for the premium Bose audio setup that fits a dozen speakers throughout the cabin. But that’s not all the tech features—not by a mile.
Among the other amenities fitted throughout the 2024 Prologue, you also get an 11-inch Driver Information Display that sits behind your steering wheel but is placed slightly lower than the infotainment center to not obstruct your vision on the road. This not only helps give the interior of the Prologue a carefully thought-out aesthetic, but it also gives you a more customizable way of displaying what you need to see, like the speedometer, odometer, battery capacity, and more.
If you find yourself opting for the highest-tier Elite trim, you also get a Head-Up Display (HUD). A HUD projects information into your line of sight so you can see everything you need without taking your eyes off the road. The HUD can display your speed and other information you deem fit. This gives the car an even more futuristic feel, lending a sci-fi flare to the driving experience that perfectly matches the Prologue’s smooth all-electric powertrain.
The Complete BEV Experience
You won’t regret buying the new 2024 Honda Prologue, especially if you’ve been deciding between which new BEV you should buy. If you already own an SUV and are looking for the perfect replacement that keeps the midsize design you like but will save you and your family more money over time, the 2024 Prologue may be what you’re looking for. If you haven’t owned either an EV or an SUV before, starting with the Prologue may be the best way to introduce yourself to that lifestyle. Honda is off to a strong start with its very first electric SUV, and we expect it will be a competitive offering in the rapidly growing BEV market.
