The Debut of the 2019 Jeep Renegade

The Jeep Renegade entered the compact SUV market in 2015.  Jeep engineered the Renegade to be a vehicle capable of taking drivers on any adventure they could imagine. It is the first Fiat Chrysler vehicle to be built by a collaborative team of designers and engineers from the United States and Italy.

The Renegade’s adventurous nature continues, as Jeep just unveiled the 2019 edition in early June at the Turin Motor Show in Italy. With its manufacturing roots in Europe, it’s understandable that the latest Renegade’s debut would take place there. Since its official debut four years ago, these are the first significant upgrades to the compact SUV.

It’s important to note that the features, specs, and engineering concepts discussed are based on the European version of the Jeep Renegade, which is expected to arrive at Jeep showrooms across Europe by the latter part of 2018. Per Jeep, there is no official announcement as to if or when these upgrades will be applied to U.S. version of the Renegade. There is also no information as to when the new Renegade will be available in the U.S. and at  Jeep dealerships.

The 2019 Jeep Renegade will once again stand out in the Jeep lineup and SUV market

Jeep has slightly redesigned the grille, which, according to the manufacturer, is a “more modern look.” According to early reports, there is less space between the individually framed compartments of the grille. For the 2019 Renegade, the grille’s individual compartments are framed in chrome. The fog lights have been repositioned, and the turn signals have been geometrically redesigned. LED lighting is the highlighted feature of both the taillamps and the headlamps.

As it relates to the signature “X” on the taillamps, reports note Jeep has made some slight revisions, giving the trademark look a redesign. The signature “X” tail lights are no longer enclosed in a dominant black border. As a result, that taillight aspect is more low-key when compared to previous editions of the Renegade. Reports also note the signature “X” itself was slightly revised.

The latest Renegade comes standard with 16-inch wheels. However, consumers have the option of choosing the available 17- or 18-inch wheels. Additionally, for the first time, 19-inch rims are an available option for the Limited trim level.

With the 2019 Renegade’s debut having only taken place a short time ago, not a lot of information has been made available. That’s true as it relates to trim levels. If the 2018 version of this compact SUV is any indication, consumers can expect six trim levels. Those models include the Sport, Upland, Latitude, Altitude, Trailhawk, and Limited. There is confirmation that the Limited will be an available trim level. That was confirmed via information surrounding the new, available 19-inch wheels, which was discussed earlier in the article.

The Euro-Spec 2019 Jeep Renegade will offer new 3- and 4-cylinder engines. According to reports, at the lower end of the spectrum there will be the 1L, 120-horsepower engine. At the upper end of the spectrum, consumers have the option of the 1.3L, 180-horsepower engine. If there are no changes to the U.S. version, consumers should expect to be able to choose between the standard 1.4L, turbocharged and available 2.4L engines for the 2019 Renegade.

Despite its compact designation, the Renegade offers a roomy and feature-heavy interior. The 2019 model comes standard with the Uconnect system, available with a 5-, 7-, or 8.4-inch screen, depending on the trim level selected. The Renegade offers drivers an extra USB port, which Jeep has repositioned to the back of the center armrest. 2019 gives consumers the convenience of a smartphone holder, redesigned cup holders, and upgraded storage compartments. The Renegade’s redesigned interior provides consumers with even more space to relax and enjoy every ride.

When you’re having fun with your new Jeep Renegade, safety should not be a concern. Jeep came to that same conclusion. According to reports, the 2019 Jeep Renegade comes standard with Lane Sense Departure Warning-Plus and Intelligent Speed Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition.

Lane Sense Departure Warning is designed to recognize highway lanes and your vehicle’s position in respect to those lanes. With the assistance of a camera system, if the system detects the vehicle moving beyond the parameters of the lane in which you’re driving, and no signal light is detected, via visual and physical warnings, you are alerted to address the situation.

Intelligent Speed Assist with Traffic Sign Recognition can be described as an upgraded version of cruise control. Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) is able to detect and recognize road signs, including speed limit signs. Once the TSR system detects a speed limit sign, the driver is provided with a visual alert that relays that information. Conveniently located on the steering wheel, the driver can adjust and set the desired speed limit via the Intelligent Speed Assist feature. Intelligent Speed Assist with TSR is an optional feature. Drivers are not obligated to use it.

Available safety features include Forward Collision Warning-Plus with Active Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Blind-Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross-Path Detection, depending on the trim level selected. The 2019 Jeep Renegade Limited model will come standard with Forward Collision Warning-Plus with Active Emergency Braking.

As part of its rugged and adventurous design, the 2019 Jeep Renegade retains its ability to handle the most extreme off-roading activities. The new Renegade is available with two-wheel or all-wheel drive. It comes with two 4X4 systems, Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low. The drivetrain and 4X4 systems indicate to anyone who is familiar with Jeep, and the Renegade model specifically, that this compact SUV is ready to tackle any terrain.

But just in case there’s any concern, Jeep also offers the Jeep Selec-Terrain feature. This feature gives drivers, as the name implies, the ability to select their driving terrain. Terrain options include auto, snow, sand, and mud. The system is designed to calibrate the Jeep’s design specs to optimize the vehicle’s handling to ensure the highest level of safety and handling on any surface. If you still have any questions about the Renegade’s capabilities, take a test drive.

Whether you’re already a fan of the Jeep Renegade or just learning about it, the 2019 Jeep Renegade will capture your attention. Jeep has taken all the characteristics of the brand, ruggedness, safety, adventure, and fun, and placed them in this compact SUV, which by the way, isn’t as compact as the name would imply. The latest Jeep Renegade is designed to make every driving experience an event to remember.
