Here’s What’s New With the 2025 Maverick

Since it first hit the road several years ago, the Ford Maverick has been getting a lot of attention for how well it has proven that there are plenty of people interested in a small truck. Personally, I’m curious to see if Chevy and Ram will jump in on this market, too, but in the meantime, Ford is the only American car company with a compact truck like this. If you’re interested in a Ford Maverick for sale, then you may want to track down a 2025 model or order one if you don’t have any luck finding one at a dealership. The updates for the 2025 Maverick are significant, particularly the addition of the new Lobo trim; even if you’re not interested in the Lobo, however, the styling refresh and new features are still noteworthy. Let’s have a look at what’s new for the 2025 Ford Maverick, and you’ll see what I mean and why it could be worth finding one over the 2024 model.

The New Ford Maverick Lobo

I’m not one for burying the lede, so I’m starting with the biggest news for the 2025 Ford Maverick: the new Lobo model. I’ve liked what Ford has done with the Maverick so far, but the trim levels are not only cleaner for 2025 (thanks to the Tremor model becoming its own trim rather than a package), but they also feature this new track-ready star. The Lobo is designed with a focus on performance and precise handling, which is great, though you’re not going to find a bunch more power packed into it. There isn’t an exclusive engine on offer here, which is probably the only oversight I can see, but the differences are still noteworthy.

The Maverick Lobo comes with the four-cylinder turbo engine that delivers 238 hp, which is great but no different from what you can find in other Maverick models. It does feature a distinct transmission—a seven-speed automatic with paddle shifters on the wheel—so that’s something, and the Lobo has all-wheel drive (AWD), which is nice. Performance differences largely come from its lowered suspension and upgraded brakes designed to keep you in control even at high speeds. Along with the drive modes generally available for the Maverick, this one comes with an exclusive Lobo Mode designed for use on the track. With its specially-tuned steering and distinct looks, the Lobo is the perfect choice if you want a performance-focused compact pickup.

Styling Update and Refresh for 2025

The Maverick Lobo has unique and powerful looks, but it’s not the only version of this truck getting different styling: every 2025 Maverick enjoys a facelift from last year’s model. This includes a redesigned front bumper and grille with bold new looks, plus new wheel designs that you’ll find across various models this year. Darkened headlamp covers give the front end a stronger overall look and beautifully complement the new grille and other design elements. Overall, these aren’t going to transform the way this truck drives or anything, but it’s nice to see these kinds of updates after just a few years since its inaugural offering. You’ll also find a whole host of stylish colors for the Maverick this year, including great options from previous years like Shadow Black and Carbonized Gray, some updated options like Ruby Red Metallic and Velocity Blue, plus new colors like Eruption Green Metallic for a distinctly energetic hue.

Hybrid + All-Wheel Drive = Worth the Wait!

As you may know, there are two engines offered for the Ford Maverick: a standard 2.0L four-cylinder that offers 238 hp, along with a 2.5L hybrid engine with 191 hp. Both of these engines are great options, and it really comes down to what you’re looking to get from your truck. Although the fuel efficiency of the hybrid is quite impressive, particularly when combined with the smaller size of the Maverick. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard on the Maverick, though AWD is available, but there’s always been a catch to this: AWD was only offered with the standard 2.0L engine, not the hybrid. Until now.

Starting with the 2025 Maverick, Ford now offers AWD with both engines, so you no longer have to choose the conventional powertrain if you prefer the handling and performance of a truck with AWD. Honestly, this is one of my favorite changes for this model year because I’m a big fan of companies giving their customers the freedom to get exactly what we want. If there’s any sort of vehicle I look for with AWD, it’s a truck—even a compact truck—so this is precisely what I’ve wanted from the Maverick. Of course, if you’re not interested in this particular combo, then it’s not a big deal, but if you’ve been hoping to see Ford come around and offer the hybrid with AWD, then you’re in luck.

Improved Interior Tech

Inside the Maverick, you’ll find that Ford has refreshed the interior and given it some impressive upgrades that could make it well worth holding off for one of these models rather than a 2024 pickup. Aesthetically, the interior hasn’t changed much, though the Lariat model has a new Smoked Truffle interior available with beautiful upholstery featuring a blue-gray color with bronze accents and more distinct touches. The big star of the show, however, is the gorgeous 13.2-inch Infotainment display that’s now standard in every Ford Maverick. For comparison’s sake, an eight-inch screen is standard on the 2024 model, so that’s a huge upgrade in terms of interior tech features. If you don’t care about these kinds of things, then it’s probably not a big deal for you—personally, that’s enough of an upgrade for me to suggest my friends hold off and wait for a 2025 Maverick (unless they can get a smoking deal on a 2024 model).

Great Performance and Capabilities

Sometimes, what hasn’t changed is just as important as what has; for example, the performance and capabilities of the 2025 Ford Maverick are as good as ever. This means the Maverick still has 1,500 lbs of payload capacity on offer, letting you get plenty of work done with this small truck. Standard models have 2,000 lbs of towing capacity for you to take advantage of, no matter which engine you choose, and going with the available Towing Package increases that to 4,000 lbs of max towing with either engine. This means you can choose the kind of performance you want in your compact truck and get the towing you need for handling whatever you want to do in your pickup. Does it compete with something like the Ford F-150 in this regard? Of course not, but it’s also not supposed to. It’s plenty of muscle for getting the most from your drive each day and enjoying your days off, which is precisely what I look for in a small pickup like this.

Is the 2025 Ford Maverick Right for You?

This is the big question, right? And one that only you know the answer to since it comes down to what you’re looking for in a truck. If you need something larger or with the ability to haul 8,000 lbs of weight behind it, then the Maverick is definitely not the right choice. But if a compact truck would fit well into your life, provide you with the kind of driving experience you want, and has the capabilities you’re looking for in a pickup, then the Maverick should be high up on your list of potential vehicles. As far as looking for a 2025 model rather than a 2024 Maverick, I’d say it’s worth it for the larger screen inside and the ability to get AWD with the hybrid engine. Having access to the new Lobo model is the icing on this particular cake, so consider what you want in your next truck, then choose accordingly.
