Happy Birthday! Chevy’s Camaro Celebrates its Half-Century Milestone

Fifty has never looked so sexy! Chevy’s iconic muscle car is now flexing fifty years of burning rubber and turning heads, but showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Since its birth on September 29, 1966, the Camaro has thrilled for six generations with more than five million Camaros sold since. Wanna take a trip down memory lane? Click the link to view Chevy’s own tribute and testament to its pony car pride at www.CamaroFifty.com.

This video is more than just a collection of Camaro photos and crowning moments of automotive glory. Partnering with design group ILOVEDUST, Chevy and advertising experts Commonwealth/McCann, created a timeline of Camaro greatness, which invites visitors to check out one-of-a-kind photos and fun facts peppered throughout the Camaro’s illustrious history.

Tom Peters, the Director of Exterior Design for Chevrolet Performance Cars, explains, “Through the course of its iconic 50-year history, Camaro has been a reflection of the times, forging in passionate influences from customers, development teams and racing technology. What has remained consistent is the beautifully simple and powerful sculpture that has stayed instantly recognizable to our customers and enthusiasts of all ages. I have the same passion today as when I saw a Camaro for the very first time. It just makes you smile!”

Cheers to that!

The brilliance behind the 11 by-60-foot mural featured in the timeline on www.CamaroFifty.com is that it represents the symbiotic relationship between Camaro loyalists and the car itself. The stories and adventures of Camaro drivers have fueled Chevy’s innovation and creativity for decades.

Just ask Camaro Chief Engineer, All Oppeheiser, who rightly observed, “Camaro fans share a lot of creative passion for the car — passion for performance and for styling — that was passed along in every generation.”

More than anything, the Camaro bridges the gap between the automotive past and its ever-evolving present, leading to an undeniably exciting future.

“Camaro’s 50th birthday reminds us of Chevy’s history of ingenuity and design excellence. We want to honor our past by creating more exhilarating and stunning Camaros year after year, and that’s what we plan to do.”

And so far, it’s working. Nailing a perfect 5/5 score from Car and Driver, the 2017 Chevy Camaro is arguably continuing the impressive work of the very first Camaro, unveiled fifty years ago today. Starting at $25,905, the latest Camaro offers drivers a blistering level of performance, backed by a herd of anywhere between 275 and 650 horses. Available, as always, in a coupe or convertible body style, the new Camaro comes equipped with one of three engine options: the 2.0-liter four-cylinder, 3.6-liter V6, and the monstrous 6.2-liter V8.

If you ask us, we argue go big or go home! Opt for that monster engine and rush towards the future, backed by a proven history of performance excellence. After all, let’s not forget, when asked upon its release what the word Camaro actually means, Chevy engineers quipped, “a beast that eats Mustangs.”

To that we say – Happy Birthday, Camaro! Cha, cha, cha…
