All too often, our older cars leave us high and dry, and typically they do so when we’re about 100 kilometres away from the nearest civilization in the depths of the Canadian wilderness. So if you’re in the market or could potentially be soon, your local Nissan dealer has great new and used inventories for you to check out. We know that you’ll definitely want to avoid getting into anything that will need to be quickly replaced. With that in mind, you might be thinking about looking at both new and used models to see what will fit your needs.
Cars Best Bought New
Some cars are really just better off for you to buy new. Not because they’re likely to break down on you after use, but because there are certain cars that just get driven really rough and that kind of wear and tear on a vehicle can really reduce its lifespan. Other cars are great to purchase brand-new because they have neat in-car features that might not be as functional after a couple years of use. Another reason some cars are best to buy brand new is going to come down to personal things like allergies. Vehicles that are typically used to haul the family pet or other animals will have pet hair and dander that could trigger your allergies, and while cleaning the car helps a lot, it isn’t always enough for those of us with the reactive allergy systems. One last reason you may want to purchase these cars new instead of used comes down to value. Some models will retain their value for quite a while, so it makes sense to purchase them new.
2021 Nissan GT-R
This is one that may be tricky to find new because it was last produced as a 2021 model for Canada. However, due to the nature of the way people typically drive sports cars, we do tend to recommend that you get them new. If you knew the person driving the car before you was good to it and didn’t drive it far outside of their capabilities, then the GT-R would be fine used as well. The reason we recommend new sports cars comes down to how hard they get driven. You don’t typically buy a sports car because you want to take a nice, slow stroll down the street and maybe smell the roses. People usually get the GT-R because they want to own the road and be the fastest one on it! That means that there are a lot of hard and fast accelerations, quick turns, and quick stops. While these cars are built with that purpose in mind, if the previous owner took a turn too sharp and hit a curb, braked really hard, or accelerated through the gears improperly, then a used GT-R could potentially be a little worse off. In this case, since there are not any new ones being manufactured, if you choose to buy a used GT-R, get a full inspection done.
2022 Dodge Challenger
Again, this is a sports car, but it is definitely more available new. So if you can manage to, it would be best to get it new. Challengers are notorious for being quick on the road and are very fast. They look, sound, and feel fast. This speed can sometimes get people in a bit over their heads and cause them to make rookie mistakes that hurt the overall functionality of the Challengers. Just like for the GT-R, you really don’t know how the previous owners treated the car, and that makes it hard to feel certain that it will be a good purchase. If you buy new, though, you can be certain that the car will be in 100% working order.
Cars That Are Great, Even When Used
While there are some cars that are really only good when bought brand new, there are others that, no matter what, seem to be great cars. These are the amazing cars that can be found at used prices but still run like they’re brand new off the lot. Other cars lose their monetary value the second you drive them off the lot, so those cars are better bought used because they’ll be priced closer to their actual value than when they’re brand new.
2020 Honda Civic
Hondas are well known for how well they retain their value. They are also well known for their ability to survive quite a bit of vehicular abuse and still run for years and years. The 2020 model comes with all the updates, and not a whole lot has changed for the Civics since 2020. Honda also stopped producing the Coupe body style for the Honda after 2020, so if you like the look of the two-door, the 2020 model is a good place to look. This is a car that you can buy used and still feel really great about it. Used Civics seem to run forever, regardless of if they’re well maintained, and they have all the great updates of the newer models, so you won’t be missing out on much!
2019 Nissan Maxima
The Maxima is a great model for those who are interested in driving a car. It’s compact enough to be maneuverable but still large enough to give drivers and passengers the room they need. The 2019 model got a fancy exterior makeover to make it look sharper and more aggressive. The 2019 Maxima also has all the great safety updates and quite a few included convenience features. Nissans are great when it comes down to retaining their value and being able to stand up to the test of time, so the Maxima is a great model that can be bought either new or used.
2021 Hyundai Elantra
When it comes to great used cars, the Elantra is an excellent pick. It received an exterior remodel in 2021 that makes it look sleeker than ever, with an interior to match. The technology got a really great update for the 2021s as well, and that makes it that much more perfect. When it comes to used models, the 2021 Elantra is able to feel just like new!
2020 Nissan Sentra
If you’re looking for a used car that stands out from the rest, the Sentra is a great pick. We’d go for the 2020 model because it received a lot of updates that were sorely needed. The engine got a nice little boost that increased its fuel efficiency, and the technology got updated to have standard driver assistance features added on. Basically, Nissan took any and all complaints about the previous Sentra years and did something about them! They certainly made a lot of improvements for 2020 that make it a great car for any driver.
Best of Luck Shopping!
If you are looking for a new car, these are some examples of what models should be bought new and some that can be bought used and still feel like they’re new! It’s a lot to consider when you’re thinking about replacing your current car, and it can be very stressful to know what to get next. Especially if your ability to pick out cars often lands you with a clunker and a mechanic bill that costs a fortune. So keep these things in mind and the reasons why some cars ought to be bought new versus used, and we wish you the best of luck on your search!
