If you’re interested in a full-size sedan then the 2019 Chevy Impala is a great choice. If that’s all you need to hear, then you can stop reading right now and go buy yourself a new car – have fun! On the other hand, if you’re looking for more than just a blanket statement to convince you of the Impala’s value, then read on! You don’t have to just take my word for it, because I’ll show you why the Impala is so impressive.
Let’s take a look at the kind of power and performance you can get out of the 2019 Chevy Impala, as well as the fuel economy it has to offer. We’ll also check out the trim levels that are available because I like seeing the options that Chevy has on offer at each level. Finally, we’ll check out the safety features you can pack into the Impala – because it’s important that any car you choose to keep you and the people you care about safety while on the road.
Reason #1: The Engine(s)
So let’s get started with the engine that comes standard in the 2019 Chevy Impala because what better place to begin than with the beating heart of this beauty. The standard engine is a 2.5L Ecotec 4-cylinder engine that provides up to 197hp and 191 lb.-ft. of torque. This engine includes automatic stop/start technology that helps improve fuel economy when you’re dealing with stop and go city traffic. While that might not be a ton of power, it should be sufficient for a wide range of drivers while also being fuel efficient.
But, what’s better than one engine? Two engines! No, this is not some wild concept car with two engines, but there is a second option if you want to upgrade the engine in the 2019 Chevy Impala. It’s an available 3.6L V6 engine that offers up to 305hp and 264 lb.-ft. of torque. Now that’s what I’m talking about – in a four-door sedan, that’s a lot of power, and you’ll definitely feel this engine’s power when you get a chance to open it up on the highway.
So what’s the takeaway here? Well, the 2019 Chevy Impala has two engines available, which is an excellent option for a sedan, and while the starting engine is fine, there’s a much better choice if you really want some muscle under the hood. Either engine is available at the starting trim level and upgrade, but the 3.6L V6 comes standard if you step up to the Premier trim option.
Reason #2: Fuel Economy
Remember that superior fuel economy I mentioned when we were looking at the 2.5L standard engine? Well, it’s an estimated 22mpg in the city and 29mpg on the highway. This is a full-size sedan we’re talking about here, so you’re not going to see the kind of fuel efficiency that you might find in a compact or a hybrid. But for a full-size, the 2019 Chevy Impala can definitely keep you away from the gas pump for a while.
Of course, if you step up your engine to the much more powerful 3.6L V6, then your fuel efficiency will suffer somewhat. Fortunately, it’s still pretty good at an estimated 18mpg in the city and 28mpg on the highway. The 2.5L standard engine is certainly a better choice if fuel economy is your primary concern and you mostly drive in the city – but for more power, and if you tend to stay out of stop-and-go traffic, then the optional 3.6L engine is terrific.
Reason #3: The Trim Options
So I like a lot of trim options; usually, I’m someone who wants to see a good six or seven choices available so a vehicle can be customized exactly how I want it. However, sometimes less is more. The 2019 Chevy Impala only has three different trim levels to choose from, but in this case, they present enough features and options that I still feel they get the job done quite well.
The standard trim level is the Impala LS, which features the standard 2.5L engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission, and MacPherson front suspension. The interior of the 2019 Chevy Impala LS includes an 8-inch color touchscreen with Bluetooth functionality and support for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which features a 6-speaker audio system. There are numerous USB ports, steering-wheel mounted controls, and a 4-inch driver information display. It has standard features such as power windows, keyless open and start, and cruise control.
Then there is the 2019 Chevy Impala LT, which includes the standard features of the LS and builds upon them. You get the same engine, transmission, and suspension with the LT, along with the same 8-inch touchscreen display and 6-speaker audio system. The LT, however, includes 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot functionality, power driver and front passenger seats, and a compass display with the driver information system. You also get remote start functionality with the LT, along with rear-window defoggers, and dual-zone climate control.
Finally, you can choose the 2019 Chevy Impala Premier, which basically builds upon the other two and presents much more. This trim level includes the more powerful 3.6L V6 engine standard, with a 6-speed automatic transmission and MacPherson front suspension. It has an 8-inch touchscreen Infotainment system with Navigation and voice-activated features. The Premier includes an 11-speaker Bose Centerpoint sound system, a wireless charging pad for devices, and a 4-inch driver information system. It includes interior ambient lighting, multiple power outlets, and a cargo net in the trunk.
Reason #4: The Safety Features
Rather than look at the safety features available and standard at each trim level, I’m going to focus on the big picture. That means that a lot of these features are not standard at each trim level and instead are available options that you can add on. At the Premier trim level, however, you’ll get all of these so keep that in mind as you look at what Chevy has to offer and consider how best to keep you and your loved ones safe.
The 2019 Chevy Impala Premier includes StabiliTrak for better stability and traction control, particularly during emergency maneuvers, along with brake assist and brake control for panic moments or when cornering. There are LED daytime running lamps to help ensure you are visible to other drivers, plus ten airbags just in case the unthinkable does happen. There’s a rear vision camera, which you would expect in a 2019 model, and rear cross traffic alert to help you avoid any objects or people you might not be able to see even with the camera.
You also get lane change alert with side blind zone alert on the 2019 Chevy Impala, which helps warn you when vehicles are in an area you might not be able to see easily from the side mirror, and can also help detect a vehicle approaching rapidly along the side. Other standard safety features include 3-point, all position seat belts and seat belt pretensioners for the driver and front passenger, to keep the seat belt securely in place and also more comfortable while in use. Finally, there is the LATCH system to keep child restraint seats secure, so this is a great choice for anyone with young, small children.
There you have it, proof that I wasn’t just blowing smoke when I said the 2019 Chevy Impala is a great choice for a full-size sedan. From power and comfort to high-tech features and safety options, it’s got it all.
