1. Pure Power
If you’re not interested in power, then check out a sedan or coupe, otherwise, this is the biggest reason to buy a 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500. It starts with the baseline engine: a Vortec 6.0L V8 that gives you 360-hp and 380 lb.-ft. of torque with a 6-speed automatic heavy duty transmission. A pretty good place to start and it ensures you have enough power to lug around just about any load you could want to pile into this beast.
If that’s not enough, however, then you can upgrade the 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 with a Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 engine. This will give you up to 445-hp and 910 lb.-ft. of torque, with a 6-speed Allison automatic transmission. Not sure what all that means? It means power! It means towing capacity that can’t be beat. Whether you are loading up with sheets of drywall or hauling a trailer with a boat on it, this engine is up to the task.
2. Incredible Payload
Some days you might need to hitch on a trailer or lug a camper behind you, but most days I worry about the general payload the bed of my truck can handle. This is where I’m putting my toolboxes, my materials, and pretty much anything else I just need to toss somewhere that’s heavy enough to not fly away. 3. Tremendous Conventional Towing
Just like with the payload, conventional towing maximums depend on the type of engine you choose and whether you want a single or dual rear wheel setup. For the Vortec engine with a single rear wheel, you get just over 14,000 lbs. of conventional towing capacity. With dual rear wheels that goes down slightly, to 13,700 lbs. which should still be plenty for most jobs.
The Duramax turbo-diesel really shines when it comes to towing. With a single rear wheel setup, the Duramax will give you up to 15,000 lbs. of conventional towing capacity. Choose a dual rear wheel setup, however, and you get up to 20,000 lbs. of conventional towing. Unless you’re trying to move a house, the 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 can pull whatever you need – and probably some houses too.
4. Even Better Gooseneck Towing
Fifth wheel or gooseneck towing, which requires a hitch in the bed of the truck, is not something that everyone needs. I don’t, but I know some people who do; so if it’s important to them, then it’s important to me. The Vortec engine with single rear wheel setup has a gooseneck towing capacity of up 14,200 lbs. and just 13,700 lbs. with a dual rear wheel build. Once again, the Vortec option is better for handling heavier payloads, with solid towing but not exceptional.
The Duramax turbo-diesel shines when it comes to gooseneck or fifth wheel towing, just like conventional. With a single rear wheel build it can handle up to 17,500 lbs. when gooseneck towing, and up to 23,100 lbs. with a dual rear wheel setup. If you’re looking to use a gooseneck hitch, then you probably have some specialized needs and big loads, which the 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 can handle.
5. The Lap of Luxury
Power is great, high towing capacity is great, but we’re not animals – we want some comfort in our truck. Whether you’re on your way to work, or just leaving a job site, your vehicle should give you a break from demands on your time and energy. Sound-deadening materials and triple-sealed doors help ensure you have a quiet cabin to sit in – whether you are cruising down the highway or just getting away from coworkers for a few.
