Which Land Rover is Right for You?

There are only a handful of brands out there that have a reputation for unmatched off-road performance, and Land Rover is at the top. Established over 70 years ago, these iconic vehicles have proven themselves in combat and competition, winning the first Dakar Rally and carrying special forces on recon missions through desert and jungle. The brand even holds a Royal Warrant and was a favorite of Prince Philip.

With a history like that, it is no surprise that you might want a Land Rover for yourself. However, you may be wondering which one of the brand’s models is the best pick for your lifestyle. That’s a great question, though I can’t recommend a single model that is perfect for everyone. What I can do, is take you briefly through the Land Rover lineup and look at all of their 2022 models. You’ll have to keep in mind exactly what you’re looking for in a vehicle, though if you’re interested in a Land Rover, then I assume you want power, style, and impressive off-road options in your SUV.

Since there are seven different 2022 Land Rover models available, narrowing down your options can seem a bit tricky at first. However, there are some very significant differences between each of them, so it’s actually not that difficult to decide on which one or two are best for you. I’ll take you through each model, go over the kind of performance they offer, and highlight some important details on each of them.

The 2022 Land Rover Defender

We’ll start things off with one of the easiest models to consider in the Land Rover lineup since there’s only one of them (for now). That doesn’t mean you’re shy of options with the Defender, however, as there are numerous trims and three different engines available for this midsize SUV. In addition to that, two different main bodystyles are available for the Defender: a two-door model called the Defender 90 and a four-door option known as the Defender 110.

The really fantastic thing about the 2022 Defender is that it’s the perfect vehicle for going off-road or simply driving around town. It has terrific off-road performance thanks to standard four-wheel drive, locking differentials, and powerful engines with plenty of torque, not to mention available air suspension. But it also drives on the road beautifully and includes exquisite luxury details like an available 11.4-inch infotainment display, a 14-speaker Meridian stereo system, and a digital gauge cluster with a head-up display.

The 2022 Land Rover Discovery

Next up, we have the first of two Discovery models: the 2022 Land Rover Discovery, which is a luxurious midsize SUV. There’s an optional third-row for the Discovery, which means it can seat up to seven passengers in its spacious and well-appointed interior. This makes for an incredibly flexible option that still gives you up to 74.3 cu.ft. of cargo space with just the front seats occupied.

A 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine is standard on the Discovery, which gives you 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. If you want improved performance, then there’s an available 3.0L 6-cylinder turbocharged engine that boosts those numbers up to 355 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Combine that with a standard 11.4-inch infotainment display and gorgeous luxury features throughout the interior, and you have something special.

The 2022 Land Rover Discovery Sport

If you like the styling and performance of the Land Rover Discovery, but you need something a bit smaller, then consider the 2022 Discovery Sport. This compact model has a lot of the same thought and design put into it as the larger Discovery, but the lower price and more modest size can make this a better option for a lot of drivers. It still delivers terrific off-road performance and is a lot of fun to drive, thanks to a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers 246 hp and standard all-wheel drive.

This smaller model is designed with two rows of seating for up to five passengers, but much like the standard Discovery, there is an optional set of third-row seats available to add room for two more people. These rear seats are pretty small, however, so you’ll want to reserve them for a couple of kids or two adults that you don’t like very much. Interior features include a standard 10-inch infotainment display, an available head-up display, and an optional 10-speaker Meridian surround sound system.

The 2022 Range Rover

Now we come to the first of four different 2022 Range Rover models available from Land Rover, which many see as the true flagship series for this brand. This standard Range Rover is an absolute work of art, with a powerful design that provides impressive performance and gorgeous luxury features. As a midsize model, the Range Rover has two rows of seating for up to five people, though there’s no third-row option here.

There are six different engines to choose from on the Range Rover, giving you a lot of freedom to get the level of performance you need. There’s even a Plug-in Hybrid available if you’re looking for something with the best fuel economy possible, and each model comes with all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic transmission. A pair of 10-inch displays in the center stack combines with a 12-inch HD interactive driver display to provide you with a ton of information.

The 2022 Range Rover Sport

If you’re looking for the power and sophistication of a Range Rover, but the standard model is bigger than what you need, then consider the Range Rover Sport. This 2022 Land Rover model is a compact SUV with much of the design philosophy and prestige of the standard Range Rover. You get an excellent all-wheel drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission in the Range Rover Sport, with numerous engine options available for a nimble and powerful ride.

In fact, many people prefer the Range Rover Sport because its smaller size allows it to be more responsive than the standard model. That being said, the Sport is certainly a smaller option, and you won’t get as much space inside for cargo or for your passengers to stretch out. It still has plenty of great interior features, however, including a pair of 10-inch displays for the infotainment system, similar to the standard model.

The 2022 Range Rover Velar

If sophistication and a sleek style are your primary concerns when shopping for a luxury compact SUV, then the Range Rover Velar is a fantastic option. There’s no denying that this model is gorgeous, and one look at its exterior or a few moments of sitting inside it will immediately impress upon you the quality of Land Rover’s attention to detail. In terms of performance, it falls a bit short of what the Range Rover Sport has to offer, but it retains the pair of 10-inch infotainment displays and other stunning interior features of this luxury lineup.

The 2022 Range Rover Evoque

The last option in the Range Rover series, the Evoque, is a pure expression of design and style over everything else. It’s gorgeous inside and out and truly makes a statement about the possibilities of aesthetic precision in automotive engineering. There’s only one engine available here, but it’s a 246 hp turbocharged 4-cylinder beauty paired with all-wheel drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission that really makes it a lot of fun to drive. A 10-inch infotainment display and great options including a head-up display, wireless charging pad, and 15-speaker Meridian sound system are available to take your driving experience even further.

So Which One is Right for You?

As you can see, when looking at the 2022 Land Rover lineup, you have a lot of options available to you, and each one has its own strengths to consider. Choosing the right one can be tricky, but they all live up to the Land Rover legacy for incredible off-road performance. If you are in the market for a vehicle that delivers capability, comfort, and technology like no other, you are sure to enjoy any model that bears the Land Rover name.
