The 2020 Jeep Compass vs 2020 Nissan Rogue: Best Bang For Your Buck?

If you’re looking to purchase crossover, you may find yourself stuck between two models. For example, maybe you’re doing research on the 2020 Jeep Compass vs 2020 Nissan Rogue. After all, that’s likely how you arrived here in the first place. Since you’re already interested, we’re here to tell you all about these two models so that you can decide which one works best for your personal needs. The Compass and the Rogue are quite similar, but there are enough notable differences that help to distinguish them. We’ll take a close look at specs, design, gas mileage, prices, and much more to help you make the best choice.

Which One Has The Biggest Engine?

If you’re interested in power, this is an important question. These two models score very closely in this area. The Compass definitely has the upper hand here when it comes to horsepower (HP), with a 2.4L (liter) engine, and 180 HP at 6,400 rotations per minute (RPM). The Rogue, however, has a larger 2.5L engine, but only 170 HP at 6,000 RPM. Both vehicles are front-wheel drive at the base-level. The Compass comes with four-wheel drive (4WD) options, whereas the Compass comes with the less durable all-wheel drive (AWD) alternative.
Because of its weaker engine, the Rogue does get slightly better gas mileage, landing at a combined 29 MPG average. The Compass follows closely behind at 26, but with more power. Truthfully, that 3-mile difference isn’t bad if you’re wanting that extra HP. It just depends on if you prefer better gas mileage or more power.

Color Variety?

The Compass and the Rogue both come in the same colors, minus a few exceptions. The Compass is available in maroon, and the Rogue is available in brown and green. Otherwise, both vehicles come in white, silver, gray, black, red, blue, and orange. Additionally, the Compass comes with either Black or Aluminum wheels. This feature is nice for those who prefer a blackout look.

The Safest Option?

The Compass comes with many security options. These include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection, rear park assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and a high-strength steel body structure to protect during potential crashes. As always, Jeep does not disappoint when safety is the issue.

The Rogue shares the rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and lane departure warning features, but that’s about it. It includes less important, but still handy options such as high beam assist, which automatically dims high beams when there’s oncoming traffic. All in all, the Compass comes out ahead in regards to safety.

Which One Is More Technologically Inclined?

Both vehicles have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Integration. They also both have emergency preparedness, remote access for controlling your vehicle, and navigation options. However, the Compass also comes with a vehicle finder option, which is handy for those rough grocery store trips. “Which aisle did I park in?” Worry no more with the Compass. This also comes in handy when you’re exploring new areas. It can be all too easy to park somewhere in a new city and not be able to find your way back.

What’s On The Inside?

You always hear that it’s what’s on the inside that counts. We have to agree here. No matter how cool your exterior looks, you’ll spend most of your time driving. As a result, the interior is incredibly important. So, what are the differences between the Compass and the Rogue’s insides?

Compass

The Compass comes with dual-zone automatic temperature control, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. This alone is pretty nice, but that’s not all there is to this Jeep model. The Compass offers a nice sound system. This Alpine Premium Audio System comes with a 12-channel 506-watt amplifier, nine speakers, and a dual voice coil 8-inch subwoofer. That’s a pretty good audio system for a stock build.

The Compass has more handy features, like an adjustable cargo floor, a power liftgate, and plenty of cargo space to boot. Different trims come with different seat material options, but leather and cloth are available depending on which trim you’re interested in. The Trailhawk and the Altitude come with cloth if that’s what you prefer.

Rogue

The 2020 Nissan Rogue comes with Bluetooth audio, dual-zone temperature control, and an automatic liftgate. It does come with a 9-speaker Bose audio system, but there’s no mention of subwoofers or amplifiers. The Rogue also comes in cloth and leather, depending on the trim. Certain exterior colors will come with different interior colors. For example, the Caspian Blue exterior comes with Almond leather.

While there are things to like in each model, the Compass has the edge. It has many more interior features and a better sound system. If the interior is top on your preferences list, the Compass is the way to go.

Prices

Now for the final, fun part. It’s time to figure out how much it costs! We’re only looking at starting rates because prices will quickly change based on customization. Let’s start with the Compass. There are 9 different Compass styles, so bear with us here. The Sport starts out at $22,280. The Latitude begins at $25,870. The Sun & Wheel starts at $26,765. The North Edition (limited) starts at $27,975. The Altitude MSRPs at $27,290. The Sun & Safety (limited) lands at $27,320. The Limited begins at $28,875. The Trailhawk MSRPs at $29,850, and the High Altitude starts off at $31,145. Those are a lot of prices, but having so many options means that you can find that best model for your life and budget.

Now we have the Rogue. This one comes in 6 different options. The Rogue S FWD, which starts off at $25,490, then the Rogue S AWD lands at $26,940. The Rogue SV FWD MSRPs for $26,870, and the Rogue SV AWD starts at $28,220. The Rogue SL FWD begins at $31,840, and the Rogue SL AWD, costing the most, starts at $33,190. As you can see, the most expensive Rogue costs more than the most expensive Compass model. Furthermore, the same goes for the cheapest models. The Compass base-level starts at $22,280, yet the base-level Rogue begins at $25,490. The Compass is definitely the more affordable option.

Our Final Thoughts

Both vehicles come with similar options, yet the Compass weights better in most categories. The only thing that the Rogue really has on the Compass is gas mileage, but not by much. Jeep lovers will be happy to know that their chosen model comes out on top. However, if you came here unsure of which one works best for you, hopefully this helps you decide. The Nissan is only the better choice if you’re an avid Nissan lover. If the name brand matters most and you’re a diehard Nissan fan for life, there’s nothing wrong with getting the Rogue. Just know that the 2020 Jeep Compass provides more bang for your buck in this case.
