There are only a few big decisions you need to make if this is the right vehicle for you, but before we get into those, let’s see the standard features you’ll find on every model. This is a great place to start if you’re still trying to decide whether this is the right vehicle for you.
The 2025 Chevy Equinox EV is a compact SUV with a battery-powered motor system rather than a conventional engine, which makes it a battery-electric vehicle (BEV). This vehicle is an SUV that lets you leave the gas pump behind, but you should be sure a BEV is the right type of vehicle for you. If you live in a situation where you can easily charge a vehicle overnight at home, then a model like the Equinox EV is a terrific choice. On the other hand, if you live in an apartment or a house with only street parking, then a model like this might not be right for you just yet. You can still use public charging stations and other options, so don’t overlook it completely, but be sure you can make the most of it.
That said, performance with the Equinox EV is quite impressive, and it’s definitely a vehicle that’s fun to drive (we’ll get into specifics more in a moment). This is a compact SUV, but you still get a surprisingly spacious interior thanks to Chevy’s design, which is roughly based on the overall size, looks, and feel of the traditional Equinox model. You get two rows of seating inside for up to five passengers, and the Equinox EV has more than 26 cu.ft. of rear cargo space in the back, along with just over 57 cu.ft. of total cargo volume behind the front seats. That’s a good amount of space inside for a compact SUV, so this model works well for a wide range of drivers, which I like to see. You also get 1,500 lbs of towing capability with the Equinox EV, which is more than enough for most folks looking for a small SUV like this.
Overall, this is a good choice if you want a compact BEV SUV, and every model comes with the Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver assistance features like a Forward Collision Alert and Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking. You also get Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Reverse Automatic Braking, and much more. Even Blind Zone Steering Assist and Rear Park Assist are standard in the Equinox EV; safety features are essential to me, so I love seeing all of this provided in every model. Now, let’s talk about the options you can choose from.
One Battery; Two Motor Options
Although some BEVs have a lot of options available for power systems, Chevy keeps things pretty simple with the Equinox EV while also giving you two good choices to choose from. Every model features an 85 kWh battery, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on anything there, and this is plenty of power for a small SUV like this. It’s easy to charge at home using Level 1 or Level 2 charging options, plus it supports DC Fast Charging at public stations, so you can utilize every charging opportunity.
When it comes to performance and maximum range from a full charge, then you have an important decision to make with the Equinox EV, so keep this in mind. The standard setup for this BEV is a single motor on the front wheels that provides 220 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque; that is a great place to start with a compact SUV. This is the way to go if you’re worried about the range of a BEV since it can go an estimated 319 miles from a full charge, which is plenty of distance for most driving that people do each day.
If you’re looking for enhanced control and performance, then there’s a dual-motor option available for electric all-wheel drive. This pair of motors provides 300 hp and 355 lb-ft of torque, taking your driving experience further and ensuring you have a great time behind the wheel. The drawback to this enhanced performance, since it has the same battery, is that a dual-motor Equinox EV gets an estimated 285 miles from a full charge. You’ll have to decide what’s most important to you, but you can see there are pros and cons to both options.
Two Trim Levels to Choose From
The other big decision to consider when looking at the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV is which trim level you want because you have two available. We start with the LT, which is the standard model. It comes with 19-inch wheels, LED exterior lighting, power-adjustable side mirrors, and a manual rear liftgate. Inside, the LT features an impressive 17.7-inch Infotainment display with Google built-in, which is very easy to use, along with a six-speaker sound system (that’s not amazing, but certainly sufficient). Cloth seating is standard with a six-way driver’s seat and four-way front-passenger seat, plus you get an 11-inch Driver Information Center display in this standard model. A urethane steering wheel is a bit underwhelming for a modern SUV, and you just get single-zone automatic climate control inside.
If you want something more stylish and impressive inside and out, then the RS trim is the way to go with its 21-inch black-painted aluminum wheels and AutoSense power rear liftgate with a programmable memory height function. Inside, the RS has Evotex seating with heated front seats, including an eight-way power driver’s seat and a six-way front passenger seat. We find a heated, flat-bottom wrapped steering wheel in the RS model, which is a fine upgrade from the standard one; plus, this model has a wireless charging pad and selectable multi-color ambient interior lighting that lets you control the mood inside your vehicle. You can take things further with available options like a power front-passenger seat, ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and much more, but these aren’t included as standard, even on the RS model.
Which Chevy Equinox EV Is Right for You?
One thing I didn’t mention when looking at these two trim levels is the price—there’s a pretty big jump in price going from the LT to the RS model, so keep that in mind when looking at what’s out there. The right model for you ultimately comes down to what you’re looking for, so consider whether you want the best performance or range possible; then, you can choose which motor setup best meets your needs. Beyond that, I think the LT has plenty to offer, and you can get some nice upgrades like the available Comfort Package and even an Active Safety Package with Chevy’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system added on without reaching the price of the RS trim level. You’ll have to decide which one is right for you, but if you want a compact BEV SUV, then the Equinox EV is a great pick.
