What’s New for 2023?

The Jeep Grand Cherokee isn’t a brand-new model for the brand. In fact, it has been around since 1992. However, it just saw a complete redesign for the 2022 model year, which brought it fully into the modern era. For the 2023 release, Jeep didn’t do anything radical to the model, but did make a few key alterations. It takes the best qualities from preceding Jeep models and refines the proportions and layout to create something unique and exciting. For example, the Trailhawk trim is now available exclusively with the 4xe plug-in hybrid configuration. On the infotainment front, the top 25.7-centimetre diagonal touchscreen display with navigation was made standard for the Limited and Overland trims, and the premium audio systems are now more available across the lineup.

The 4xe Plug-In Hybrid

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe is a sophisticated plug-in hybrid that gets you where you need to go while saving you money along the way. These days, many people have either already adopted or are on their way to adopting electrified vehicles. Plug-in hybrid technology is a great way to curb your gas consumption, save money at the pump, help the environment, and get adjusted for what will certainly be the powertrain of the future. If you’re not yet on the verge of going fully electric, the plug-in hybrid gets you the benefits of battery power and the traditional feel of an internal combustion engine. Jeep’s most economical version of the Grand Cherokee comes to us as the 4xe plug-in hybrid model.

With an efficiency rating of 4.2 Le/100km, the Grand Cherokee 4xe enjoys an all-electric range of 42 km. You’ll enjoy fewer trips to the gas station and more money in your pocket for things you’d rather spend on. Don’t worry; the efficiency doesn’t take away from the power and speed. The 4xe powertrain features a gas-powered engine combined with two electric motors to deliver 375 hp and an astounding 470 lb-ft of torque, giving drivers a stealthy and exciting SUV. The 2.0-litre turbocharged I-4 engine doesn’t hesitate when you’re ready to get onto the highway or accelerate through traffic. It’s complemented by a seamless TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission that helps maximize the efficiency and smooth feel of the drive.

With its large 17 kWh battery, the Grand Cherokee 4xe can be driven in three modes: Electric, Hybrid, and eSave. Driving it in Electric mode converts your Jeep to an electric vehicle producing zero emissions and zero engine noise, perfect for cruising downtown or enjoying nature. The Grand Cherokee 4xe is fine-tuned to handle off-roading with a Quadra-Trac II 4×4 system that boasts a two-speed transfer case. The battery pack is fully sealed against water and protected from damage with skidplates to handle a variety of terrains, which makes it more than worthy of wearing Jeep’s Trail Rated badge.

Legendary Performance

Not quite ready for a plug-in hybrid? No problem. The 2023 Grand Cherokee delivers several trim levels and packages that offer exquisite performance and capabilities. The 2023 lineup includes the Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit, and Summit Reserve. Hybrid and non-hybrid versions both include class-leading features that help conquer the road. The class-exclusive Quadra-Lift air suspension Jeep offers works with electronic semi-active damping. The suspension system automatically adjusts its shock tuning as driving conditions change to enhance stability and control and alleviate the discomforts that come from uneven terrain.

You can manually control the height of the air suspension, adding ground clearance to take on the trail or lowering the vehicle for easy egress. This gives you all the benefits of a brand tailor-made for off-roading adventures, with 27.7 centimetres of ground clearance. The Quadra-Lift system will even automatically lower the vehicle at high speeds, improving aerodynamics. There are also driver-selectable terrain modes to optimize your Jeep’s performance. When you engage the Selec-Terrain traction management system, you can enjoy optimum performance by operating the Jeep in Auto mode, Sport mode, Rock mode, Snow mode, or Mud/Sand mode.

Drivers have a choice of a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine, a 5.7-litre HEMI V8, or the turbocharged 4xe PHEV. The Pentastar engine produces 293 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque and can tow up to 2,812 kg. If you’re hungry for more oomph, the 5.7-litre V8 engine makes 357 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. This beefier setup can tow up to 3,265 kg, a class-leading figure. The Grand Cherokee functions in either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive based on which best suits the driving conditions. The 4×4 torque split system will automatically engage when triggered by a change in terrain.

Everyday Function

While the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is renowned for its off-road prowess, it also possesses the versatility needed in an everyday city vehicle. Jeep dedicated as much energy to equipping the Grand Cherokee with safety and driver-assistance features as it did with off-roading features. This emphasis on safety gives drivers confidence that this model is reliable. The 2023 Grand Cherokee comes with standard and optional features like Full-Speed Collision Warning with Active Braking and Pedestrian/Cyclist Detection, Rear Cross Path Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, and more.
