If you are looking for a cutting-edge eco-friendly vehicle, then you have come to the right place. The new 2022 Chevy Bolt EV and 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV are the ideal models for urban environments and suburban driving alike. Before you head over to your local Chevy dealership, read over our handy guide to these innovative vehicles.
Exploring the 2022 Chevy EV and EUV
While the existing Chevy Bolt EV has been fully redesigned for 2022, the Bolt EUV is a brand new model. Designed to resemble an SUV, this larger version of the popular Bolt EV offers more space for families. Both models boast unique exterior design elements and innovative technology. These are some of the things that made the Bolt EV one of the most popular electric vehicles on the market.
As of right now, General Motors intends on releasing 25 long-range electric vehicles by 2025. The goal is to cultivate a road system with no toxic emissions, no congestion, and no accidents. While these seem like unrealistic expectations, it all might just be possible with the type of advanced technology that the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV have.
The Chevy Bolt EV was first released to the public in 2017, and it has since gained rapid popularity for its incredible driving range. The new 2022 model can travel for up to 259 miles on a single charge, which blows the competitors out of the water. Over 100,000 Bolt EV models have been sold since its debut, and buyers seem to be very happy with this petite ride. With that in mind, the engineers at Chevrolet decided to set their sights on something higher – a fully-electric SUV.
What’s New?
The most exciting feature of the 2022 Bolt EUV is that it will be the first Chevy model to offer GM’s revolutionary Super Cruise system. This is a hands-free driving function that will take over most driving tasks for you. Designed to help reduce the risk of an accident, this type of feature will also help lower stress levels behind the wheel. However, we will get into the details later.
Another new feature is the Dual-Level Charge Cord. It has a changeable plug that can switch between the standard 120-volt 3-prong outlet to a 240-volt outlet. In other words, you don’t have to buy another cable to charge the battery faster. This two-in-one cord can toggle between Level 1 and Level 2 charging, making owning an EV more convenient than ever before. In addition, Chevy is promising to help cover the cost of installing a Level 2 charger in your garage or driveway. This will grant access to faster charging to more people. Also, with the Dual Level Charge Cord, a standalone station for charging is not required.
How Much Are They?
Both the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV and EUV are priced with the consumer in mind. The folks over at Chevy wanted to make electric vehicles more accessible, and they have done exactly that. The 2022 Bolt EV starts at $31,995, and the 2022 Bolt EUV starts at $33,995. However, the company is planning on releasing a limited-edition Launch Edition model for the Bolt EUV. This special version will come with Super Cruise technology, different wheels, unique badging, a sunroof, and even an illuminated charge port that enables you to hook the vehicle up at night easily. This particular model will cost about $43,495.
How Are They Different On the Outside?
Aside from the Bolt EV being a hatchback and the Bolt EUV being an SUV, these two models share no exterior sheet metal parts. While they are based on the same concept, they are two completely different vehicles. Plus, the Bolt EUV is six-inches longer than the Bolt EV. However, boast bold, athletic design elements and sleek proportions.
The EUV is a compact crossover with a distinctive face, sculpted grille, and signature LED lighting. It also comes with unique daytime running lamps for enhanced visibility. A center crease line runs through the hood, which makes it look like it’s moving even when it is parked. It also offers roof rails for additional storage space. Switching gears for a moment, the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV gets a revised front fascia and new lighting on the front and back of the vehicle. It also includes the same daytime running lamps.
What Kind of Technology Do They Have?
Both the EV and EUV come with a standard 10.2-inch infotainment display and an 8-inch customizable gauge cluster. Integrated controls allow for easy access to the interface and all of its functions. Meanwhile, the electronic gear shift comes with toggles and buttons that take up less space than previous designs. Both vehicles also come with one-pedal driving. This takes advantage of regenerative braking to slow the car when you lift off the accelerator, recharging the battery in the process.
Flat-bottom steering wheels are included in both vehicles for a sportier look. The seats also feature a geometric pattern with contrasting stitching for even more of a racecar vibe. In other words, you will enjoy every second inside either vehicle. Finally, heated and ventilated front seats are available, and heated rear seats are also offered. You can even opt for a sunroof on the Bolt EUV.
What Is Super Cruise?
Super Cruise is a driver assistance system that will literally drive the car for you. Currently compatible with over 200,000 miles of mapped roads across North America, this system uses both a Driver Attention System and LIDAR map data to control the vehicle safely. The Driver Attention System utilizes a camera positioned at the top of the steering column.
This camera comes with infrared lights that detect where you are looking while you drive. If you look away from the road for too long, the light bar on the steering wheel will alert you to put your gaze on the road again. If you make a habit of not paying attention while Super Cruise is active, the system will give up control of the vehicle and prompt you to take over. Super Cruise will be available on the 2022 Bolt EUV Premier model.
What Safety Systems Do They Have?
Aside from the available Super Cruise system, both vehicles come with Chevy Safety Assist. This suite includes Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, IntelliBeam auto high beams, Front Pedestrian Braking, and a Following Distance Indicator. A rearview camera is included on every EV and EUV model as well.
You can also opt for more advanced safety systems such as Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, and HD Surround Vision. The first will alert you if another vehicle moves behind you while you are in reverse. The second system will enable you to set a speed limit and following distance, which will help to prevent rear-end accidents during rush hour traffic. The final add-on provides you with a 360-degree view of your surroundings before you move from your parking space.
