A Breakdown of What to Expect from the 2021 Chevy Suburban

There is a reason why the large SUV has stuck around as a popular fixture within automotive lineups throughout the years: they provide everything you’ll need in a car. While more compact models have begun to take the auto world by storm, the large classics have remained as heavy hitters, delivering expansive spacing, premium-level features, and some serious power beneath the hood. As we look forward to the 2021 model year, we can already expect the return of many large SUV classics, as well as some new faces. Chief amongst the new vehicles expected to be hitting showroom floors across the country is the 2021 Chevy Suburban.

The Chevy Suburban has been around for quite some time, existing as the largest model of the Chevy family lineup. While many aspects of this big SUV have changed over the decades, the bones of this vehicle have stayed the same, as drivers can expect large engines, plenty of space, and near-luxury riding experience. The 2021 model is expected to make a series of tech and comfort changes that we hope will enhance the overall experience and make driving and riding in a Chevy Suburban all the more thrilling.

The Legacy of the Chevy Suburban

The Chevy Suburban of today is arguably a high-tech car, sporting features that automate whole aspects of the driving process. Although, the Chevy Suburban wasn’t always this way and has a legacy dating all the way back to the first iterations of SUVs. In fact, the first generation of the Chevy Suburban came out in 1935 and was a large two-door vehicle designed to provide optimal spacing and a rather luxurious driving experience. The Chevy Suburban would change over the decades, existing as a staple of the Chevy lineup throughout all of these years. And through every iteration, the basics of the Chevy Suburban remained the same.

The 2021 Chevy Suburban, though, exists as a rather dramatic departure from the model that came before it. While the 2020 model was pretty incredible in terms of the many advanced features packed inside, the 2021 model hopes to capitalize on the existing foundation, and from what we can tell, it manages to pull this effort off with flying colors. Much like previous iterations, the 2021 Chevy Suburban will get seven different trim options, which include the LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. The exact pricing is still up in the air; however, we speculate that it’ll still remain in the $50k range. While this may seem a little costly at first glance, this pricing seems rather fair considering just how large the Chevy Suburban is and how many features you get with the model.

The Engine

Since the very beginning, the Chevy Suburban has sported some serious power beneath its front hood. While the exact type of engines has changed, the same truth has remained consistent across the board, that is that power ought to be plentiful and well-delivered. The 2021 Chevy Suburban falls in line with previous models by providing the same incredible degree of performance. When you lift the hood of the base model 2021 Chevy Suburban, you’ll find a well-designed 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V8 engine that is coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission. This engine is standard in every trim model all the way up until the High Country trim. Meanwhile, the High Country trim gets a truly compelling 6.2-liter V8 engine that issues out 420 horsepower. And if the standard gas-powered engine isn’t enough, the 2021 Chevy Suburban is also available in a turbodiesel 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which offers up 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The engine of the 2021 Chevy Suburban is great, but the additional available gear is what really deserves the spotlight. The newest Chevy Suburban can be fitted with adaptive dampers and an adjustable air suspension, vastly improving the smoothness of the ride. The Suburban can also be tweaked for off-roading thanks to the Z71 trim, which gets 20-inch all-terrain tires, a durable set of skid plates, and a two-speed transfer case; and as you can expect the Z71 model gets a powerful four-wheel drivetrain.

Inside the 2021 Chevy Suburban

The black interior of a 2021 Chevy Suburban is shown.

While the powertrain options of the Chevy Suburban have always been a focus for drivers, the interior cabin has always taken a close second. And the 2021 model of the Chevy Suburban is expected to be far larger than before, hosting more room for both cargo and passengers. The interior cargo hold is will expand by a tremendous 23 cubic feet, which totals out to 144.7 cubic feet in total. Although, the newest model of the Chevy Suburban adds more than just a roomy interior. In the center dash is a sprawling 10-inch infotainment system compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This infotainment display provides dazzling access to essential applications like navigation, audio, and maps. And you don’t just get one brilliant screen in the Chevy Suburban, as behind the second-row seats passengers get to enjoy two 12.6-inch displays, which is a must-have for any parent of a big family. Additional high-tech features of the Chevy Suburban include a Wi-Fi hotspot, which allows you to stay connected no matter where you are on the road. A wireless phone charger is also available, which brings an extra level of convenience to your ride.

While all of these high-tech features are bound to change the way you ride, there is more tech in the Chevy Suburban that is tasked with altering the way you drive. In some models, drivers will be able to stay informed thanks to a 15-inch color head-up display. This display, which is projected right onto your windshield, allows you to do things like answer incoming calls, project turn-by-turn directions, and even get safety alerts without having to glance down at your center console. There are other driver assistance features that add to the level of safety packed into the Chevy Suburban too. Some of these high-tech features include forward-collision warnings, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-departure warnings, and lane-keeping assist. All totaled, the Chevy Suburban is designed to protect drivers proactively in avoiding a potential accident rather than just reacting when an accident occurs.

Looking Forward to the 2021 Chevy Suburban

The Chevy Suburban has been an impressive vehicle since all the way back in the 1930s. While the 2021 model is very different from what first made an impression all those decades ago, the same principle expectations of a big SUV remain the same. The 2021 Chevy Suburban is going to be a powerful force that offers a variety of high-tech features that will change the way you drive. And while there are still many things we have yet to learn about this vehicle, we’re excited to take one on a test drive once they are officially released from Chevy manufacturers.
