7 Reasons the Chevy Equinox LS Should Be Your Next Crossover

Many of us grew up in family cars and trucks. I grew up in a six-person family, and we either had a five-seat car or a six-seat truck. My mom would drive us to our various sports activities and lessons in the five-seater, while special occasions, vacations, and the like were reserved for the six-seat pickup. Later, when crossover SUVs started to become popular, I wished my parents had picked out something like the 2022 Chevy Equinox LS.

There are a variety of reasons why I’d still choose something like this as my daily vehicle, and I’d like to point out some things that might make it move to the top of your list, as well. Let’s take a look at why so many people have chosen to purchase the Equinox LS and see if any of these appeal to you too.

#1: Less Expensive Than a Mid or Full-Size SUV

While we all like to have our personal space, sometimes a larger SUV isn’t suitable or practical. A crossover is within my price range, and I still get the space and seating I need without the bigger price tag. There won’t be much more wear and tear than the regular maintenance since I’m sticking to my small town and neighborhood, so maintenance costs should also be lower.

As someone who works from home and doesn’t always have ready money on hand, a less expensive option that maintains its quality is quite attractive. Even looking at newer models, the pricing is reasonable, especially with all the standard features that make the Equinox LS a modern, safe, technology-forward vehicle. I can rest assured that my car payments will be low, but my experience with the vehicle will be high quality.

#2: No Gas-Guzzling

As gas prices continue to fluctuate, it’s a relief to have a vehicle that won’t break the bank. The Chevy Equinox LS gets an estimated 26 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway, which is a stark difference from bigger SUVs, where you can expect a fuel economy that starts in the mid-teens and rarely reaches more than 28 MPG on the highway.

Not everyone can afford to work from home or even in their city. With people looking for work in neighboring towns, carpooling, and working side hustles like Lyft, Uber, or GrubHub, it’s a good idea to have something a little more economic fuel-wise.

#3: Bells & Whistles Come Standard

I was poking around a few dealerships this past weekend and was curious about which features are now considered standard in newer models. I’ve only driven older vehicles, so it’s almost like night and day when it comes to what is considered standard these days. I particularly like the features included in the Equinox LS, like the Chevrolet Safety Assist program, which pairs well with the standard Teen Driver technology.

With a driving-age teenager in the house, it comforts me to think that we’ll be able to keep tabs on how their driving goes and know that we’ve got the Equinox as a partner in safe driving practices. Wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and Bluetooth capabilities means that everyone can find something to do to keep themselves occupied on long trips.

#4: Shopping Made Easy

Chevrolet has made it even easier to purchase a vehicle from the comfort of your home. I appreciate this, especially because I usually have a small window for when I can scan through a few dealerships and see what’s available. Also, we’ve had one car for the last week and a half, and it is getting old. Being able to shop from home lessens potential scheduling snafus.

If you enjoy virtual tours and speaking to a representative directly, Chevy MyWay is the tool for you. You can get a tour of the Equinox, see which features are available, and chat with a representative about any questions or concerns you may have. If, however, you prefer doing more of the legwork yourself without having to speak to anyone, Chevy’s “Shop. Click. Drive” feature may be more to your liking.

#5: Spacious Accommodations

Unlike the two-bench pickup truck my family drove from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s, the Equinox LS has plenty of space for all passengers. Even the back seats have enough legroom for people to find whatever sitting positions are most comfortable without having to sit a certain way. I remember being upfront in the pickup and sitting with my legs to the right; otherwise, they would hit the gearshift. Not anymore.

Chevy’s crossover also has plenty of storage space, even without the back seats folded down. You can pack the entire family’s luggage, camping equipment, or sports gear in the back without having to pile anything on top of the Equinox.

#6: Towing Capacity

Not everyone will need this feature, but it’s nice to know that the Equinox LS is capable. My family chose a pickup instead of an SUV because we needed space for all of our rather large instruments like a harp, cello, two violins, and a guitar. There would be just enough room for the instruments in the back and ourselves inside.

The Equinox, however, is capable of towing, and should your inside cargo space be full of things like musical instruments and sports equipment, it is equipped with hefty towing capabilities to haul much heavier things like camping equipment or a trailer. If you ever wanted to rent a U-Haul but were unsure whether your vehicle could handle the weight, you will be happy to know the Equinox can tow up to 3,500 lbs when properly equipped. This gives you space for that holiday tree or the unique piece of furniture you saw at the flea market without having to intrude on anyone’s space.

#7: Aesthetics

I will admit to being a bit of an aesthetics snob when it comes to certain things like vehicles. There are shapes, lines, and angles that I don’t care for, and sometimes that does make a difference in which vehicle I’m leaning toward. The Chevy Equinox LS, for all its crossover design, looks athletic, sporty, and absolutely fun. No minivan vibes here! It wouldn’t be out of place in the school parking lot but wouldn’t feel underdressed at fancier events. With its sleek appearance in a range of metallic colors, the Equinox LS will draw admiring attention.

Automobile design might seem like a lesser reason to choose a vehicle, but I assure you there is a purpose behind it. With a vehicle that takes its cues from a rather boxy design, you’re more likely to encounter wind resistance. Something with curves helps prevent as much resistance as possible, giving the vehicle a chance to maintain speed and its fuel economy rating.

The Chevy Equinox Is Perfect for All Types of Drivers

The Chevy Equinox LS is one of the most popular compact crossover SUVs for the reasons above, along with plenty more. I appreciate Chevy’s dedication to providing practical yet stylish vehicles for customers, as well as ways in which to shop safely and see the features you care about the most. With such an inexpensive, up-to-date, base trim model packed full of safety features, it’s easy to understand why so many flock to Chevy’s Equinox.

Whether you’re looking for a new family vehicle, a daily commuter car, or something that can handle a variety of jobs, the Chevy Equinox LS is ready to assist you in your day-to-day life, take your family on vacation, or start that road trip with your friends. The Equinox’s flexibility and quality make it one of the best choices for your next crossover compact vehicle.
