The All-New 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500: Capability At Its Finest

The 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 is the perfect vehicle for a large portion of truck drivers. This new Silverado 1500 is built upon the groundwork that Chevy has been improving upon for over two decades now. In a sense, the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 is yet another evolutionary step for a fan-favorite lineup. Although the Silverado 1500 is sold alongside the Chevy 2500HD and 3500HD trucks, which are focused on extremely heavy-duty workloads, the Silverado 1500 is still a very capable machine. With the Silverado 1500, you’ll be receiving excellent towing results along with a ride that is as powerful as it’s efficient. While the Silverado 1500 has been around for quite some time now, this new 2021 model may be the best one yet.

A Variety of Trims

Starting with the arrangement of trims for the 2021 Silverado 1500, it’s an identical arrangement to last year’s offerings. In addition to the trim level you opt for, you must also select whether you want a Crew Cab, Double Cab, or Regular Cab. The base Silverado 1500 is called Work Truck (WT) and gives the 2021 Silverado 1500 a starting MSRP of $28,600 along with a considerable set of features. Even for those who opt for the base model, you won’t be sacrificing as many features as the price differences may suggest.

Following this base trim, the Silverado 1500 offers Custom and Custom Trailboss – one of two Trailboss trims with the second being LT Trailboss. The rest of the trims are LT, RST, LTZ, and lastly, the venerable High Country. At the top of the line, the High Country trim offers drivers the utmost power and luxury than any of its lower-tier counterparts. Regardless of which trim you do purchase, the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 is a truck that deserves your undivided attention.

Power Delivers Strong Towing Performance

Much like the arrangement of trims, the same engines as last year are offered again for the 2021 Silverado 1500. Because of this, the Silverado itself is capable of towing upwards of 13,300 lbs if equipped with all of the right parts. The list of engines begins with the base 4.3L V6 engine that produces 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. You can also opt for a turbocharged 2.7L 4-Cylinder that comes paired to an 8-speed automatic. This engine not only produces 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque, but it also can help grant the Silverado 1500 a maximum payload capacity of 2,280 lbs when paired with a regular cab and long bed.

Additionally, you may opt for a turbo diesel 3.0L I-6 that produces 277 hp and an impressive 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine is the only diesel variant available to the lineup and comes equipped with a 10-speed automatic transmission. With this engine equipped in your Silverado 1500, you’ll get a maximum towing capacity of 9,500 lbs and have the best fuel-efficiency out of the entire lineup. If paired to a rear-wheel drive configured Silverado, this engine gets ratings of 23 MPG city and 33 MPG highway. These numbers are slightly decreased when driving with a four-wheel drive setup, with the engine achieving 22 MPG city and 26 MPG highway.

The remaining engines available to the Silverado 1500 are all V8 engines. Perhaps the most versatile of the bunch is the 5.3L V8 engine that can be paired with either a 6-speed, 8-speed, or 10-speed automatic transmission. Regardless of the transmission that you pair your engine with, this V8 will produce 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. However, those who are looking to take their Silverado 1500 to the next level have the choice to do so with the last engine for the lineup.

The final engine option is a 6.2L V8 that produces 420 hp and matches the aforementioned diesel engine’s 460 lb-ft of torque. This engine comes paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission ensuring the smoothest ride possible. Equip your Silverado 1500 with this engine, along with the proper trailering packages, and your truck will be able to tow the maximum limit of 13,300 lbs. Simply put, this is the engine that helps the Silverado 1500 remain a competent player against its competition.

How Much Cargo Space?

As previously mentioned, the 2021 Silverado 1500 can be purchased in a variety of three different cab sizes. Opting for a Crew Cab will give you 69.9-inches or 5.8-feet of space in the rear-bed and is the smallest of the three. Purchasing a Double Cab will give you a longer 79.4-inch or 6.6-foot long bed. However, should you opt for the Regular Cab, your Silverado 1500 will feature a 98.1-inch or 8.1-foot long bed. This is substantially more space than the previous two cab sizes and is the perfect choice for those who require that extra space. Although the Regular Cab offers an ample amount of space, the Double Cab and even the Crew Cab should suit the needs of many drivers.

Standard Features

Looking inside of the vehicle, the interior doesn’t come standard with a leather-trim; however, you may opt for a leather package to complement the leather-wrapped steering wheel on select trims. Although the driver seat is simply a 4-way manual seat in the WT trim, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat is available and comes standard on higher-tier trims. Also available on WT is a 4.2-inch driver information center and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, both of which also come standard on higher trims.

Owning a vehicle with a hotspot is becoming increasingly more common these days as everyone wants to have their internet connection in their vehicle. Hotspots are essential to have nowadays as your passengers can enjoy their favorite content on a personal network that is both fast and secure. In addition to this, your Silverado will also sport an infotainment center that comes in both 7 and 8-inch touchscreen variants depending on the trim level you choose.

With this screen, the Silverado 1500 utilizes towing friendly tech to display your trailer in a variety of different viewpoints. There are a total of fifteen viewpoints that can be integrated into this system, including a birds-eye view. Lastly, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard regardless of which Silverado 1500 you choose. This allows you to connect your smartphone to the infotainment center to access a wealth of new and exciting features that stem from your phone.

Chevy Continues To Impress

Although a vast majority of its specs and features can be found on last year’s Silverado 1500, the 2021 Silverado is still an impressive showing. The Silverado is perfect for those who are looking for something value-oriented or even drivers looking for something entry-level to introduce them to the exciting world of towing. Whatever it is that you’re looking for, the 2021 Silverado 1500 is a fantastic choice for a multitude of reasons.
