Summer Road Trip Bliss in the 2017 Honda Odyssey

Road-tripping enthusiasts are in for some serious fun this summer, thanks to Honda’s latest minivan – the 2017 Honda Odyssey. When you’re behind the wheel of the Odyssey, you’re in complete control of everything from your ideal climate, to the kids in the back with their endless “Are we there yet?” nonsense. This year’s Odyssey is rife with entertainment and connectivity capabilities, supported by outstanding safety specs, and all the trim level choices any consumer could possibly ask for.

Take to the Highway and Embark on Your Own Odyssey

While the last day of school might inspire dread in some parents (What are we going to do with these monsters all summer?), smart moms and dads plan ahead, and part of that plan involves a well-timed road trip. Disney is an obvious destination, but you know your budget and your best trip to keep everyone occupied.

Getting there is half the battle, of course, but the 2017 Odyssey’s entertainment options – particularly in the Odyssey Special Edition, which includes Sirius XM radio, and rear seat entertainment system with wireless headsets, along with a 115V power outlet to keep those personal devices charged – is your best line of defense. The Odyssey Special Edition even includes a Honda VAC, so you can keep the passenger space – all 172.6 cubic feet of it – clear of crumbs from those essential road trip snacks.

And getting there won’t take long at all, thanks to the Odyssey’s V6 engine, capable of 248 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque, operated by a smooth six-speed automatic transmission.

With seating for eight passengers total, along with five car seat anchors, you can bring along friends and family of all ages. Better yet, you can do so knowing that you’re in a safe vehicle, no matter how long the trip takes. Every 2017 Honda Odyssey model (LX, EX, SE, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite) is backed by active safety features like an Anti-Lock Braking System, as well as Brake Assist, Electronic Brake Distribution, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Rearview Camera w/Guidelines, and Vehicle Stability Assist w/Traction Control, not to mention a host of passive safety supports.

The three upper trim levels (EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite) are further enhanced by a Rearview Camera with Navigation, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning.

Priced to start at $29,850 for the base model, the 2017 MSRP reaches upwards of $45,000, for the top-tier Touring Elite. However, no matter which trim level option you choose, you’ll be saving money at the gas pump, courtesy of the Odyssey’s fuel economy ratings, listed at 27 highway and 19 city mpg.

As minivans go, the Odyssey is quite a stunner. Its sleek, sculpted body comes in a range of eye-catching exterior shades, including: Alabaster Silver Metallic, Celestial Blue Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Dark Cherry Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Obsidian Blue Pearl, Smoky Topaz Metallic, and White Diamond Pearl.

After all, if you’re going to travel hither and yon this summer, you might as well do so in style. Definitely spring for the Special Edition though – those wireless headsets might just save your sanity if a sudden traffic jam stalls your speed. Otherwise, you might be in for a crazy-making game of old-school “I Spy.”
