In light of both personal and professional success, my boss recently decided to trade in his covet-worthy Nissan Titan, and reward himself with (what else, but) a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. In all fairness, the final decision came down to either a Trackhawk or (my personal obsession) the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon but, either way, the means of locating the vehicle of choice required little more than a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Dealership Near Me search. Of course, that was far from his approach. His process of choosing was simultaneously methodical and instinctive. His knowledge of the industry provided him with the means of making an informed decision, and he knew exactly what he wanted. At the end of the day, horsepower was the ultimate target, and with seven-hundred or more in the crosshairs (regardless of which he chose) the man had lined up his shot perfectly.
Now, obviously, there is no secret as to which he chose (if I was trying to be secretive, I might have chosen a different title and opening). But my point is that, even to a Dodge enthusiast such as myself, it’s hard to argue that he made the right choice.
Combining the versatility of the Grand Cherokee with inarguable performance makes the Trackhawk one of the most intimidating aspirational vehicles out there while retaining a degree of familiarity. Reminiscent of the four-door Charger sedans (which, incidentally, have been my vehicle of choice for most of the past decade) it took the accommodating nature of a family-friendly vehicle and (let’s call it as it is) infused it with some serious balls.
Powered by a 6.2-liter Hemi V8, the Trackhawk is equipped with launch control and a torque reserve system, capable of an earth-shaking 707hp and staggering 645 lb-ft of torque. And as if those reported numbers weren’t impressive enough, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that, despite being spec’d to achieve an 11.6-second quarter mile, my boss has confirmed documentation of an 11.2 run. Needless to say, we were impressed to witness it.
For those who may not be familiar with the (instantly iconic) Trackhawk and everything that it has to offer, here’s an in-depth look. I personally recommend that you view this with headphones to fully enjoy the majestic roar of this domestic (but never domesticated) beast:
