Looking for a Pre-Owned Ford? Check Out These Great Options

Ford has been one of the most prominent names in the automotive industry for nearly a century and continues to this day. Every year, Ford rolls out new, exciting vehicles that wow the masses. But, with each new generation comes the extinction of another. Okay, perhaps it is not an extinction event, but with each new release, an older model is sometimes pushed into obscurity, and unrightfully so. Check the lot at a Ford dealer, and you’ll see new and old models, with the old still offering everything that makes Ford great.

Built on a legacy of quality, reliability, and innovation, Ford has proven it can go the distance. Older Ford models hold up surprisingly well, inviting potential new car owners to buy a fantastic vehicle at a fraction of the cost. Not to mention that there have been some pretty cool Ford models produced in the past, and if you want them new, you’ll have to figure out how to time travel or agree that buying a pre-owned car can be a fantastic investment.

Used cars are great but can create some uncertainty, causing you to question how you know if a used car is still a good car. If that’s you, then this list is for you. These five Ford models are some of the best used options out there, offering you everything that makes Ford great without forking out the cash for something fresh off the assembly line.

#1. The 2010 Ford Focus

The Ford Focus is unfortunately no longer available, so you will only be able to get behind the wheel of a pre-owned model. Fortunately for everyone, though, the Ford Focus is pretty affordable on the used market, with the 2010 model coming in around $10,000. Considering that a brand-new Ford sedan starts at around $30,000, it seems like a steal to me.

There are other model years worth exploring, but the 2010 Ford Focus has a unique styling that sets it apart from other model years. Additionally, the 2010 Focus has one of the higher ratings for reliability, quality, and experience, according to J.D. Power. The experience is amplified by the five-speed manual transmission, which creates a connection between the car and the driver. The control available by driving a manual lets you decide the next shift, not a computer, providing an experience you simply cannot get from an automatic. The 2010 has a rounded, sporty exterior, performance-tuned suspension, and a zippy engine.

Although a vehicle of this age lacks some of the newest technology, it still offers enough connectivity options to keep you entertained. Bluetooth works like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, letting you connect your smart device for texting, calling, and streaming music. It is also equipped with SiriusXM satellite radio and a few other neat tech features. Affordable, reliable, efficient, and fun, the Ford Focus is the complete package.

#2. The Ford Mustang (Any Model Year)

Did you know you could actually own a piece of American history? It comes in the form of the Ford Mustang, an iconic muscle car that has had a significant impact on the automotive industry, as well as popular culture. Whether you are a car enthusiast or not, chances are you are familiar with the Mustang. Its recognizable styling, unmatched good looks, and ability to give you the thrill of a lifetime have made it an American classic.

Not only can you expect a wild ride of youth and memories every time you get behind the wheel, but you can also expect quality craftsmanship and reliable mechanics that won’t let you down. Across the board, the Ford Mustang is a fan favorite for more than just its design. Unfortunately, that means the pricing can be quite unreliable. You could find a rather affordable Mustang, but be aware that not all are budget-friendly, even when shopping used.

The early 2000s seems to be a sweet spot for affordability, and a bonus is that you get a vehicle with a retro funk that will never go out of style. The downside is that with a vehicle that is almost twenty years old, you can’t expect any advanced safety or infotainment technologies. You can also expect subpar fuel efficiency. But, if you are in the market for a car that will keep on ticking long after the new car smell has worn off your buddy’s brand-new whip, then the Mustang is for you.

#3. The 2007 Ford Five Hundred

The Ford Five Hundred had a short run, and I mean a very short run. It was only available from 2004 to 2007 but was and is a great family car. The Five Hundred is convenient, providing above-average and best-in-class space for passengers and cargo. This is an ideal vehicle for family road trips, running errands, and everything in between. Appreciated for its sturdy build, you will feel utterly safe driving your family around in this barge on wheels, and I say barge with the best intentions.

One downside of this luxury beast is that it doesn’t get the best gas mileage. However, on the flip side, it is extremely affordable. With an average price of between $4,000 and $12,000, you can’t go wrong with this short-lived model. Although you won’t find any wireless charging or built-in Wi-Fi, you will find features like keyless entry and multi-zone climate control. You can find the Five Hundred in an all-wheel drive option or front-wheel drive, and it includes advanced (for its time) traction control. Plus, did I mention the price?

#4. The 2015 Ford F-150

What was once a humble work vehicle has transitioned into a luxury vehicle with plenty of tricks up its sleeve. Unfortunately, because this is no one-trick pony, the no-longer modest truck has skyrocketed in price. That is why looking for a pre-owned truck is the way to go, especially if it’s a Ford. There are quite a few used Ford trucks out there, and many of the model years are great options. However, I chose the 2015 Ford F-150 due to its overall rating and affordability.

The 2015 was rated the number one light-duty pickup truck for its model year by J.D. Power, and rightfully so. The Ford F-150 is not only fun to drive but is also new enough that it has plenty of advanced features. Luxuries like heated seats and multi-zone climate control make each drive more enjoyable, allowing you to customize your own comfort. High-end trims even offer features like built-in navigation, which is definitely a perk worth having.

Pricing for the 2015 Ford F-150 varies somewhat drastically, starting at around $15,000 and going as high as $35,000. Of course, if you can find one for $15,000, that is an absolute steal, and considering these trucks last for ages, you will be in good hands for years to come. So, if you are looking for a truck that won’t break the bank and is built to last, then go for the 2015 Ford F-150.

#5. The 2009 Ford Explorer

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know how popular the SUV has become over the years. It’s not surprising; after all, the SUV is this perfect amalgamation of truck, sedan, and even an off-road vehicle. Minus the off-roading aspect, an amalgamation is exactly what you will get with the 2009 Ford Explorer. With loads of cargo space and plenty of room for passengers to stretch out, the Explorer is super comfortable and practical.

Don’t let its age fool you, either. Despite being almost fifteen years old, the 2009 Ford Explorer is packed to the brim with luxury features. The Explorer even has navigation; of course, it is via DVD, but still, that is an extra that could come in handy. Plus, like all other Ford models on this list, the Explorer is high-quality and reliable transportation. Oh, and the kicker? The average price of a used 2009 Ford Explorer is below $7,000! Need I say more?
