Ford’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the Mustang Mach-E, enters its fourth year of production with a number of very cool updates. This shows that Ford is not content to rest on its laurels. Rather, it has used the Mustang Mach-E as a launching pad for its Ford Blue Oval program to produce high-performance BEVs and high-quality battery packs to power them. This investment in the development of BEVs has gone on to include the Ford F-150 Lightning pickup truck, with other BEV models in development that will be arriving soon at your local Ford dealer.
The choice of the Mustang Mach-E as the first BEV was an interesting one. The Mustang is one of the longest-running models in the Ford lineup. This sports car provides cool looks and fast performance, something that Ford was looking to display when naming this BEV. However, unlike the Mustang’s coupe design, the Mustang Mach-E is a compact SUV. This provides drivers with more passenger and cargo space, as well as higher ground clearance. The success of this model has driven Ford to improve the performance of the vehicle and offer drivers even more options when buying a 2024 Mustang Mach-E.
Performance Improvements
While the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E returns with the same choices of powertrains, each has been given a little boost in performance. As with prior years, Ford offers two choices of battery packs: a 72-kWh standard range and a 91-kWh extended range. These are lithium-ion cells, with the packs located in the lower frame of the vehicle to shield them from damage while not infringing on interior space. Keep in mind that ranges are estimates, and a great deal depends on your driving style and the use of other electricity on your Mustang Mach-E. In addition, drivers get a choice of rear-wheel drive with a single AC motor in the rear axle and all-wheel drive with dual motors, one for each axle. So, drivers can choose a combination of these different powertrains.
If you opt for the single motor with the standard range battery, you should get about 250 miles on a full charge. This is the same as the 2023 model. However, the output will be 264 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque. This is a slight drop in horsepower, but an increase of 70 lb-ft of torque. By choosing the dual motor with the standard range battery pack, you will get about 230 miles of range, an improvement over the 224-mile range on last year’s model. In addition, your output will increase to 325 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, an improvement of 14 hp and 73 lb-ft of torque.
You can see the same situation with the extended-range battery pack. Choosing this battery with a single motor will give you 320 miles of range, the most of any 2024 model, and a 10-mile increase over the 2023 model. You will also get up to 290 hp and 387 lb-ft of torque. This also increases torque by 70 lb-ft. The dual motor with the extended range battery will give you 300 miles of range, with 365 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. While this is a slight drop in range, there is still an additional 19 hp and 72 lb-ft of torque.
The most impressive powertrain on the 2024 Mustang Mach-E is the GT performance edition, available on the GT and Rally Edition trims. It also features a dual motor with an extended-range battery pack, but it loses the output to an insane 480 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque. This is almost 100 lb-ft of torque more than the 2023 GT performance edition. Also, this combination should give you about 280 miles of range, an improvement of 10 miles over last year’s model. This choice of powertrain should allow you to get to 60 mph in an eye-blinking 3.7 seconds.
Four Trim Levels to Choose From, Including an All-New Addition
Ford has brought back three of the four trim level choices from the previous year with the 2024 Mustang Mach-E. The Select remains the entry-level model, with a base MSRP of $39,995. This makes the Mustang Mach-E one of the more affordable BEVs in its compact SUV class. The Select features the standard-range battery with rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive and a 91-kWh extended-range battery pack are available as options. The Mach-E Select rides on a set of 19-inch wheels with all-season tires and features ActiveX seating material on the interior and a 6-speaker audio system.
There are a number of standard technological features included on all trims of the Mustang Mach-E. The Ford Co-Pilot360 is a suite of driver assistance features to help you avoid accidents. There is also Ford BlueCruise, a hands-free highway driving system that works on specially mapped roads, helping to reduce driver fatigue. The Mustang Mach-E also has the SYNC 4A infotainment system with an expansive 15.5-inch touchscreen. You can scroll through the features using the swipe of your finger. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, so you can make hands-free calls and texts while streaming your favorite music, even if you have left your charging cables at home. A wireless charging pad is standard, so you can keep your phone charged while driving.
One step up from the Select is the Premium. This adds a number of convenience features. Like the Select, the Premium comes with the standard-range battery pack and rear-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive and the extended-range battery available as an option. The Premium adds heated front-row seats and a heated steering wheel, which will come in handy on cold days. This trim also has a B&O Sound System, which was designed by Bang & Olufsen for the Mustang Mach-E. The system includes 10 speakers with a subwoofer to capture all of the bass tones. There is also Beosonic, an app that is exclusive to the Bang & Olufsen audio system that allows you to adjust the sound to your personal preference.
The GT trim also returns for another year. This is a performance version of the Mustang Mach-E, and features an extended-range battery and dual motors for eAWD. This version of all-wheel drive is provided by having motors for each axle. The red-painted front and rear brake calipers with Brembo front brakes not only look cool but will help bring your Mustang Mach-E GT to a quick stop. This model also has the MagneRide damping system to reduce vibrations when driving over rough or uneven pavement.
Drivers and passengers are sure to enjoy the Ford performance front seats, which come upholstered with a performance gray perforated ActiveX seating material. These feature unique Miko reflective inserts and city silver stitching. The GT rides on a set of 20-inch aluminum wheels wrapped with all-season tires, although summer weight tires are an available option. Ford also offers this trim with the GT performance upgrade that boosts the horsepower and torque.
The newest trim is the Rally Edition. This combines the improved performance of the GT with an off-road capability. It features the same powertrain and brakes as the GT but with the added GT performance upgrade. There is a Rallycross-tuned version of the MagneRide damping system to better handle the ruts and bumps you will encounter on the trail. To shield the undercarriage of the Rally Edition, Ford has added a set of aluminum underbody protective shields to the front and rear.
In addition, there is a grille shield in front to provide additional protection. This includes a set of fog lights for improved visibility on the trail. There is even a front recovery hook to help you get out of or over an obstacle when off-roading. The Mustang Mach-E Rally Edition comes with a set of Michelin CrossClimate2 all-season performance tires wrapped around 19-inch aluminum wheels.
The GT Bronze Appearance Package
While the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT has cool looks, you might want to do something to help make it stand out even more. This is why Ford is offering the Bronze Appearance Package on all GT trims of the 2024 Mustang Mach-E. This package starts by offering you a choice of three bold colors: Shadow Black, Star White Metallic Tri-Coast, and all-new Eruption Green. The package then adds a set of 20-inch aluminum wheels that have been painted in Sinister Bronze. This will provide a striking contrast to your choice of body color. The grille on the GT Bronze Appearance Package has also been changed. Gone is the standard black, replaced by a bronze mesh front grille. Ford finishes the package with door badges and a rear GT badge that are all outlined in the same Sinister Bronze paint color as the special edition wheels.
The Thrilling 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E Continues to Evolve in Exciting New Ways
Ford has shown that it is dedicated to giving drivers improved performance and choices on the Mustang Mach-E. Whether you are considering the all-new Rally Edition or one of the three returning trims, you are going to get better range and performance in any choice you make. You also have the option of the Bronze Appearance Package if you choose the GT trim. All of this reveals that Ford is committed to its electric future, and the new Mustang Mach-E clearly showcases this dedication with its abundance of improvements and new features.
