Ram trucks might be the most recognizable pickups on the road today. There’s something about that distinctive scooped hood and prominent Ram badging that conveys raw power, yet one glimpse at the truck’s sculpted side profile and you start to wonder if this truck is telling more of a styling story. The quick answer is, well, it’s both powerful and pretty, and with the 2022 Ram 1500 Special Edition lineup, the story continues.
Never mind that the standard Ram 1500 lineup includes six different options and multiple cab and bed configurations; Ram decided that for 2022, it might as well make choosing even more difficult with a handful of Special Edition trims. From the fully-loaded Limited 10th Anniversary Edition to the civic-minded (Red) version, these trucks make a statement and provide even more variety to dress up your Ram truck any way you choose.
Each Special Edition offers a twist on the Ram lineup’s most notable features. The Rebel G/T and Laramie G/T optimize performance, while the BackCountry aligns well with adventure seekers. Meanwhile, the limited production TRX Ignition Edition awaits buyers that want exclusivity along with a long list of performance-oriented standard equipment. Look beyond the standard lineup and check out these cool Special Edition Ram trucks.
The Limited 10th Anniversary Edition
Long known as the most luxurious pickup in the full-size category, the Ram 1500 levels up once again with the Limited 10th Anniversary Edition. It’s a special take on the original, with unique equipment and features only found on this specific Special Edition truck. Unique badging inside and out distinguishes it from the standard 1500 Limited, as does the exclusive Blue Shade Pearl Coat exterior paint, a deep royal blue hue that shows off the Ram 1500’s sculpted edges.
A set of 22-inch polished chrome wheels adorn the Limited 10th Anniversary Edition, and buyers will appreciate the custom start-up 10th Anniversary graphics on the driver’s display cluster. The front seats receive a special edition nickel-plated 10th Anniversary placard embedded into the blue quilted leather seating surfaces, and the doors feature gray quilted inserts. Add to that the expansive application of real wood trim, and the interior puts forth a luxury level of refinement.
Buyers will enjoy the included 19-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system and the sound dampening afforded by a luxurious suede headliner. The 10th Anniversary Edition is the only place you’ll find a beveled, jewel-like rotary shifter, but its more common standard convenience features like a deployable bed step mounted in the center and additional cargo tie-down hooks can be found on other Ram 1500 trims.
Ram’s famous multifunction tailgate is standard on the 10th Anniversary Edition, as is the larger 12-inch infotainment touchscreen. Buyers can choose from three engines: a 5.7-Liter HEMI V8, an eTorque version of the same V8 engine, or a 3.0-Liter V6 Turbo Diesel Gen 3 for a little more than $3,000 more. All three engines are paired with an eight-speed transmission and a standard 3.21 rear axle ratio.
The Rebel G/T and Laramie G/T
This pair of Special Edition Ram trucks represent the ultimate expression of high performance. Featuring prominent G/T badging on the rear quarter panels, both the Rebel and the Laramie immediately stand out. Both models feature a sport-performance hood designed for better airflow and enhanced engine cooling, as well as a Mopar branded cold air intake that optimizes engine output and power.
Most unique is the special G/T Cold-End Exhaust that completes the performance cycle for what Ram calls “optimal breathability.” The exhaust also produces a throaty sound in keeping with its high-performance qualities and enhances performance. All G/T editions come in a Crew Cab body style, and pricing will hover in the mid-$50,000 range. Adding a G/T distinction to the Laramie or Rebel trims surprisingly doesn’t increase the price all that much – it’s roughly a $2,500 upgrade.
A 395 horsepower 5.7-liter eTorque V8 motor is standard, delivering an equally impressive 410 lb-ft of torque. Inside, the G/T editions receive heated power front seats and a heated steering wheel, along with special leather and vinyl bucket seats with bolsters and embroidered G/T badging. Power adjustable pedals with a bright metal finish are also standard. The steering wheel receives paddle shifters, and the entire interior is illuminated with LED lighting.
The infotainment system is expanded on the G/T to include special performance pages that track G-forces and 0-60 times, and a set of 18-inch all-terrain tires with glossy black wheels complete the exterior transformation. Check with your dealer about included extras because you may need to spend a little more to add navigation, a dual-pane moonroof, or Ram’s cool MultiFunction Tailgate. Most Ram G/T buyers lean toward this special edition for its graphics package and enhanced intake/exhaust features.
The TRX Ignition Edition
You can’t appreciate the Ram 1500 TRX Ignition Edition until you give a little love to the TRX itself. Ram’s go-fast 1500 TRX joined the lineup in 2021 and won over just about every automotive reviewer. Consider the specs: 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque by way of a Supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8, with a 4.5 second 0-60 time that makes it a joy to drive in high-speed desert settings.
Ram claims this is the world’s most powerful pickup truck, and we’re not about to dispute it. The TRX also has 35-inch all-terrain tires and Bilstein shocks, along with 11.8 inches of ground clearance for confident off-roading. Inside, the 1500 TRX distinguishes itself from other trims with a flat-bottom race-inspired steering wheel, Ram’s enormous 12-inch touchscreen with navigation, and a center console shifter.
What’s different about the Ignition Edition? It’s the second special edition TRX and follows the factory’s inaugural 2021 TRX Launch Edition. That limited production truck sold out of just over 700 units in less than three hours. For 2022, Ram will build just 875 Ignition Edition TRX trucks. They’ll feature bright Ignition Orange exterior paint, a numbered TRX nameplate on the inside, and unique black wheels.
The TRX Ignition Edition receives a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, a deployable bed step, a spray-in Berliner, and a digital head-up display. Heated and ventilated front and rear seats with leather surfaces, a 12-inch touchscreen, power-adjustable pedals, a power tailgate, and a wireless charging pad. A surround-view 360-degree camera system is included, as are a handful of driver-assist safety systems.
Ram Trucks With a Twist
All of these special edition trims, along with the annual Built To Serve model that honors our American military, make for a compelling lineup. With all the news about special editions, it’s easy to forget the numerous accolades Ram trucks receive every year, including the honor of having the most loyal owners for five years running. The Ram 1500 received a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2021 and Best Truck Brand for 2021 from U.S. News and World Report.
Respected auto reviewer Car and Driver bestows a perfect 10/10 rating on the 2022 Ram 1500, in part because of its impressive 12,750-pound max towing and 2,300-pound max payload capacities. There is truly no truck quite like a Ram truck on the market today. Add the unique special editions, and lucky Ram buyers can choose from a diverse selection of great 1500 trucks.
