2023 Lexus GX Buyer’s Guide

Choosing a new vehicle is not something to jump into. It is a major life decision that should be approached with discretion, using information as your tool to make the right choice for you. Your search for a Lexus GX for sale will turn up quite a few options, but what do you know about those options? With the latest 2023 Lexus GX hitting the market, it would be prudent to learn about the GX before jumping in.

Whether this is your first Lexus or your fifth Lexus, you most likely know that the brand is synonymous with luxury. The GX goes back some twenty years, introduced into a competitive premium SUV market. Despite ample entries to rival the GX, it successfully found its place . This latest-gen offers some new and exciting changes, partly thanks to its fresh redesign. Three trim options provide enough features to choose from, ranging from design to capability.

All the Trims Step-Up

Although each trim provides something unique, quite a few similarities are shared between these options. The GX rides on a new body-on-frame platform and sports a very aesthetically pleasing exterior look. Aggressive styling meets sleek form to give the Lexus GX a great look. Inside the GX is a spacious and comfortable interior, a theme amplified by the standard power moonroof. Typically a pricey add-on for other vehicles, the GX comes with a power moonroof from the start, automatically giving you an open-air feel.

Various interior features that elevate the cabin are connected via premium selections. All trims come standard with power-adjustable front seats featuring ten different adjustments. Amplifying the convenience of this feature is the Lexus Memory System, which allows for several driver profiles to be set. The profiles recall seat position, exterior mirror position, and steering wheel position. The remaining seats all function with exceptional practicality, from the recline feature in the second row to the fold-flat feature in the third row.

As a prime example of a tech-savvy vehicle, the GX is layered with goodies across the trims. A large 10.3” display is standard and connects to tons of cool programs. Beyond the typical Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Lexus offers Alexa compatibility as well. Access everything Alexa offers for safe and convenient entertainment and information using voice commands.

If you thought that was enough to put the Lexus at the top of your wish list, think again. The Lexus GX adds in the exclusive Lexus Enform Dynamic Navigation, which offers the most up-to-date navigational information it can using cloud update services. The navigation is on all trims, ensuring you have the best route planned for the road ahead. If the road ahead involves the road behind, Lexus has it covered with its standard Backup Camera.

Outside, all three trims enjoy heated power-folding mirrors, which are nice for icy mornings. The power-folding option is also great, protecting those protruding mirrors from unwanted sideswiping. Roof rails are also included, adding a bit of something to the rugged styling but also adding function. All trims are also thoroughly loaded with safety features, providing almost every feature you could want across the board.

For more options, the Lexus GX is available in three trim options, adding a surprising amount of features on top of the already loaded GX. The first trim is the GX 460, followed by the GX 460 Premium, ending with the GX 460 Luxury. There is a very minimal price bump from the 460 to the 460 Premium, but expect something different for the Luxury. Going Luxury adds close to $10K on top of the starting price.

The GX 460

First up for the GX line is the 460. Technically, it is a base trim, but its premium status makes it feel far from basic. The 460 is adorned with NuLuxe trim, a high-end synthetic leather designed to feel and look like the real thing. NuLuxe surpasses many other synthetic leather brands as it is engineered to be more durable without sacrificing the luxury aspect. To complement the leather-like upholstery, an available wood grain in Gray Sapele trim and aluminum detail is available to round out the interior design.

Dual-zone AC comes standard on this trim but can be upgraded to a Three-Zone system if desired. As mentioned before, the seats are power-adjustable, but for those who want even more bang for their buck, there is an option to throw in seat warmers in the front and rear outboard seats. Ventilation for the front is also included in this optional add-on.

The GX 460 Premium

The Premium trim also uses NuLuxe trim, but the optional features on the 460 are standard on the Premium. Both front seats are heated and ventilated for added comfort, whether rain, shine, or anything in between. The second row automatically gets heated outboard seats as well, extending the comfort to your passengers. Three-Zone Climate Control is another automatic, making the Premium a sweet option.

The Gray Sapele and Aluminum trim is standard, so you don’t have to choose. For greater comfort, the second row has the option to be replaced with Captain’s Chairs. This option will drop seating from seven to six, but this is a fair trade-off for many. The Captain’s Chairs are heated and provide a roomier and comfy option for second-row occupants. If you want to bump up convenience and practicality, the Premium can be equipped with a power-folding and power-reclining third row.

The Premium introduces Rain-Sensing wipers, which turn on automatically when water is detected. A windshield de-icer is also included, which, as someone who has had to scrape ice with frozen hands, I feel this alone makes the Premium trim worth the buy. There are also available Premium trim packages that allow you to customize some of the exterior details to make it fit your personal style.

Considering that the Premium is only slightly more than the base GX 460, it seems to make sense to choose this option if you genuinely want a high-end experience. If the extras do not matter much to you, save the dough and treat yourself to a fancy night on the town. Either way, you will be turning heads in the Lexus GX.

The GX 460 Luxury

Lexus was quite thoughtful when naming this trim, as it is the epitome of luxury. The first upgrade comes in the form of semi-aniline leather trim replacing the synthetic NuLuxe, that is, if you prefer real leather. Then, to be able to match the upholstery, the steering wheel is provided with a leather chaser with real wood additions. The steering wheel is even heated, keeping you cozy and warm from top to bottom.

Obviously, the Luxury trim comes with the heated first and second row seating automatically. The second row also has the option to be swapped for the captain’s chairs as well. The power-recline and power-fold functions on the third row are standard and are features that significantly increase accessibility and convenience for daily errands. An ultra-sleek sound system also comes standard on this trim, featuring a rather impressive seventeen Mark Levinson speakers.

The Luxury throws in a few features you may have yet to consider. One such feature is the headlamp washer, a pretty innovative function if you ask me. This is an optional add-on for the other trims but is standard on the Luxury. The Luxury trim could offer a bit more for such a huge price jump, but can you actually put a price on luxury?

The Stunningly Luxurious 2023 Lexus GX

The Lexus GX lives up to the luxury name. From its head-turning, show-stopping design to the expansive list of premium extras, the Lexus is a vehicle you can happily spend your days driving. The only question is will you drive off with the 2023 GX or wait until next year when the redesigned 2024 GX hits dealership lots? The new model promises even more technology and a radical new exterior design, but there is still something to be said for the classic looks of the current vehicle. Whichever way you drive it, the Lexus GX will not disappoint.
